Muc-Off launches ‘the world’s fastest lube’, Ludicrous AF

The British brand set out to create a Grand Tour winning lube that combines both speed and sustainability showing “being green can be fast". It will also cost you £49.99 for a 50ml bottle

Muc-Off has released its latest lube, curiously named 'Ludicrous AF', with big claims that it offers 18% less power consumption than the nearest competitor. This makes it “world’s fastest lube”, according to Muc-Off.

Developed in-house and real-world tested by WorldTour teams Ineos Genadiers and EF Education-NIPPO, Muc-Off says Ludicrous AF has been designed to tackle the demands of the pro peloton.

The bicycle care and performance brand has also considered the environmental impact of its lube, using ingredients derived from renewable sources. It's also said to be 100% biodegradable.

Combining speed with sustainability, Muc-Off says this speedy lube shows that "being green can be fast”.

Muc-Off claims the proprietary formula has self-lubricating capabilities and synthetic polymers that aid durability for long-lasting and repeatable performance.

“When applied to the chain, it penetrates deep into chain links", says Muc-off.

"As the chain is used, the molecules react with the surface of the chain, leading to the creation of a fluid sheer plane which helps to reduce friction and thus power loss.

“This means riders can enjoy optimum performance mile after mile, in both wet and damp or dry and dusty conditions at a range of temperatures."

Alongside launching the Ludicrous AF lube, Muc-Off has opened up a section of its website, the Performance Hub, that features product development stories which detail the work that goes into developing a lubricant like this one.

“From the equipment used to environmental factors, it describes the extreme lengths that Muc-Off go in the pursuit of innovation,” says the Poole-based brand.

The new Performance Hub also covers advancements in, for example, drivetrain performance, such as Muc-Off’s oversized pulley wheels, L.O.P.S and it’s Ultrasonic Tanks for chain optimisation.

What's in it, cocaine?  Ludicrous indeed.  I purchased a wax-based lubricant at about 15 quid for 500 ml, works like a charm.  Would like to see a comparison.

That'll revolutionise the performance of my Raleigh Shopper. An entertaining press release from the BrewDog of bike tech.

I'll wait for one of the friction testing people to run the numbers before drinking the muc-off "fastest chain lube ever!1!1!!!11" cool aid.

No claims about it's vegan credentials?

I'd also like to know what that 18% saving actually is in (fractions of) Watts (I know I could go and look it up and work it about but time and effort)

Does come across as sucker bait, but people spend money on all kinds of overhyped products that make them feel good.

Fixed.

£1,000 per litre? I mean, come on...

This is a 'stupid tax' that goes beyond the premium for the latest iPhone, Tesla or whatever. TBH it just makes me laugh at how ludicrous the whole show has become - £10k road bikes, £4k carbon wheels, £4k for a groupset never mind the even-more-aero-than-last-week's-kit jersey and shorts just to go for a bike ride. Unless you're racing it's pure comedy.

And if you are expected to slap it on like they have in those pictures, at 50 quid a pop, you'll be skint in no time!

As allways no comparison to Squirt - the last mega efficient (and expensive) lube wasn't any better than Squirt...

That's the first time I've seen a product named after the price being charged.

Correction:
Didn't Apple/Rapha bring out a device/spandex pants called "gullible MF's will buy this" recently?

We had this one before and it was pulled

I remember sriracha querying the 'self-lubricating' properties of a lubricant.

Does it work well with 9sp 'shimano hg' chains?

Yeah, I know, late-stage capitalism and all that, but I think it needs to include unicorn noses to cost that amount.
