just dry it with an old towel

just dry it with an old towel or some kitchen roll

I too have been glancing at this topic with amazement. The technology ‘solutions’ to a problem which hardly exists. Shake off the water and it dries, you apply the wax or whatever and anyway it’s going to be soaked again soon.

how does a learner driver end

how does a learner driver end up with 6points on their license, for speeding no less, and is still driving around without proper insurance or L plates on the car

For the same reason that people can go over 5 years without VED and still get yearly MOTs without automatic prosecution by DVLA if they don’t declare SORN or get VED within a couple of days from MOT- it’s all on the same DVLA/ DVSA database. The reason is that the authorities can’t be bothered, and would rather rely on all the other mugs to go on paying

I feel much safer at 20mph on
I feel much safer at 20mph on the road bike than I do at 15mph on the cargo bike
Maybe you do, but it’s not going to matter. E-bikes will be power-assisted up to the present legal speed- if you want higher speeds, go illegal or get a motorcycle

And yet our laws allow only

And yet our laws allow only minimal sanctions for the same action

In fact our laws encourage leaving the scene, and getting a few drinks down as soon as you get home

    Worth noting for cyclists in

Worth noting for cyclists in Gloucs that the police will now take note of camera footage….

Seems highly unlikely, given the force’s dismal record over your cases to say the least. Lancashire started OpSnapLancs November 21. In 6 months they had given up responding to, or doing anything about, anything. It’s still going- A Big Con to rival the one dreamed about in ‘The Sting’, but this one isn’t fictional and is run by Lancashire Constabulary, and probably Gloucestershire and numerous other forces. This is WT16 ATX- first detected by me as a VED evader on 7th June and therefore not reported. I detected the MOT+VED evasion on 4th October and reported, knowing that it would be ignored by LC. This could go on for years.

the main difference I can see

the main difference I can see is that with the new system they usually won’t give feedback

Specifically designed to deceive the gullible. This means they will either do nothing at all or will send the entirely worthless warning letter.

one which may be getting a warning letter which I will send in when it’s all sorted

It’s difficult to imagine how any case can become ‘all sorted’ when the police won’t tell you what ‘punishment’ was inflicted

    This morning a fuckwit
This morning a fuckwit crashed into the back of a parked van and the car flipped onto its roof
Fortunately, the police will have rapidly concluded that this was an accident, so no driver was to blame

It seems so bizarre that the police / media still do this even when a driver is clearly in the wrong

Fear not! wtjs will not be silenced even by Lancashire Constabulary’s de facto policy that MOT, insurance, VED (and probably driving licence as well, but I can’t check that) etc. are now purely optional for hard-working, hard-pressed, law-abiding, salt-of-the-earth, staunch Defenders of the Right motorists like this one of three this morning, MA14 TKC

So the time it takes me on

So the time it takes me on the bike is already close enough that it’s not a significant factor in deciding whether to ride or drive

And it’s not going to happen anyway. The top speeds will be limited to illegal bikes.

    it’s not like there’s much
it’s not like there’s much enforcement … of anything at all really

There was an illegal e-scooter in Garstang yesterday, about 100 yards from the police station

E-bikes are, of course, the Work of the Devil, but if we set that prejudice aside this statement supporting the present e-bike assistance speed limit is welcome. Legal high powered e-bikes that don’t burn your house down and which are entitled to use cycle infra are unwelcome to at least some of us

    Fortunately, the increase in
Fortunately, the increase in the assistance speed is not going to happen. Those who are desperate to go faster can just illegally modify the e-bike- they’ll never be apprehended, just as the police ignore those illegal e-scooters

The legal limit is not going

The legal limit is not going to be increased- one of the very good reasons is that the legislation fixes the limit about right. Reasonably fit cyclists on reasonable bikes not overburdened with luggage will overtake most e-bikes on the flat (maybe that doesn’t apply to stealth e-bikes) and will lose out to ultra-unfit e-bikers using maximum assistance (which they all are) on hills. My experience is that you catch them on the downhills, but if it’s hill after hill they’ll get away

    There are a few bike
There are a few bike mechanics wincing at the idea of a cable shift without any maintenance for 6 months
I don’t know why! If the bike wasn’t used and was kept in the dry, it certainly would soon start working properly after a few shifts. If the bike was in use, it’s just ‘pull the inner out, get external outer up in the air by removing it from the cable guides, drop in oil, and replace’. That’s worked for mine with one replacement inner for both front and rear for over 3 years of all weather use.
