Another tranche of UpRide
Another tranche of UpRide links placed here in a convenient place, to show what it’s like living in an area where the police have largely abandoned traffic policing, and completely where offences are against cyclists. This lot are pretty old

I’m afraid this one is a 150 MB file despite being HEVC compressed

This is a not-very-bad close-pass where Lancashire Constabulary tried to cover-up the fact that the offending van had no MOT, by claiming that it did. It obviously didn’t, so LC blocked my email address and refused to correspond on the matter.
Although it can take a while to have the videos approved by the site, they’re very useful when they’re on, especially as you can find them precisely on the map. They’re still encouraging people to upload, but I can’t see how they can cope with demand around the world. It looks like they’re trying hard to keep motorists’ videos out, which is another good feature. You don’t seem to be able to edit entries if, to pose an unlikely occurrence, the police were later to pay any attention to the offence.

it’s worth avoiding fumes
it’s worth avoiding fumes from petroleum products and isopropanol alcohol
I am suffering from an infection with staphylococcus pedantreus, so you can’t have ‘isopropanol alcohol’

Since all smells are particulate
I can’t let you get away with that! – except in the sense that all gases consist of atoms and relatively small molecules and could therefore be described in a philosophical sense as ‘particulate’

The anti-LTN brigade seem to be getting increasingly unhinged
Once the hinges are completely off, it’s difficult to become more unhinged

And, looking at the times (GMT), I’m on my way to Garstang in Bloom with a large sack containing spade, fork, brush, loppers etc!

Sorry, hold last last
Sorry, hold that last paranoid post! It’s just a little ‘eye’ icon which takes an incident offline- I must have clicked it by accident

Time for an ebike at those
Time for an ebike at those speeds
It’s never time for an ebike- barring serious injury courtesy of Sainsbury’s or a few more years! However, this is interesting: my UpRide videos were only approved at 6am UK time this morning. The Sainsbury’s one has already been ‘withdrawn’ and is no longer visible. Is this pressure from Sainsbury’s?

I couldn’t let LC get away
I couldn’t let LC get away with that! So I have now sent in a FoI request about the LC response to the FoI request pointing out that they had issued an untrue response and that they had rejected over 6500 submissions to OpSnap Lancs, while admitting to only 2674. I have asked for the first and last APL reference (see above) of the cases which led to this response, and a breakdown of the submissions rejected with the numbers in each category. You have to be careful with such a request as it gives them the opportunity to claim that it would cost too much, but it should come straight off a database or spreadsheet.

Garmin must be thinking about
Garmin must be thinking about taking this on now and frankly with the ecosystem they have I can’t see them not winning
Yes, they seem to have no trouble getting multi-mode satellite location working inside watches, cycle units etc. I suppose it’s lack of demand, but they’d certainly get my money for a modern GPS camera. For now, the GoPro is working well, but I’m only a Windows update away from complete GPS loss.

Lancashire Constabulary says
Lancashire Constabulary says lots of things about traffic offence enforcement- most of them are lies, as I have just demonstrated. They’re not going to sue me for libel. You quote ‘contravening a red traffic light’- no response, no action to Porsche Cayenne DS 6972 going through this red light, reported as APL108813. Mobile phone use? APL110481 was about phone use at exactly 10:05:25 by the driver of TN07 CHM, seen and filmed by me- the vehicle has also been without VED for over 31 months. Nothing whatsoever will be done about either offence. As for reporting ‘No MOT’ to OpSnap- there’s nowhere else to do it, and on OSL you have a consecutively numbered reference.

Thanks, but I require a
Thanks, but I require a single device and I’m mainly after GPS ‘absolute time’. I can film a Rugby-connected radio clock mounted on the bike for over a minute at silicon clock driven 50 fps, and watch the minutes change over exactly synchronously (GoPro software does not display GPS seconds), then switch off the camera for about 57 minutes and restart it and the hour will change over exactly synchronously or only 1 frame (20 milliseconds) out- that will be the GoPro’s fault. Network time on the phone is nearly as good, but thit will be the phone’s fault

No GPS = No Use
No GPS = No Use
Sadly, none of the other big names offer GPS now either, presumably because nobody but me wants it. GoPro abandoned GPS after Hero 7 Black, and also abandoned the highly unreliable PC software, so I’m on borrowed time.

the gold standard would have
the gold standard would have to be the RAF and AAC flight crews on Op Telic etc. who fly the aircraft into contested areas so that injured people can be cared for by the medical & surgical teams before they even take off
The Vietnam War was on over the holiday- it’s possible to greatly admire the Huey crews while weeping at the history of the region and understanding the desire of the NVA and VC to kill those engaged on CasEvac. My generation largely avoided such horrors
