    Reilly makes Ti frames for
Reilly makes Ti frames for PlanetX I bought rim them and it’s great. Much cheaper than all other Ti bike dealers.

There’s are reasons for PlanetX being much cheaper! When you’ve been sent a bike with a grossly wobbling crank because they forced a drive side outboard bearing onto the non-drive side, but the joke ‘checklist’ was still ticked, you don’t go back again!

    The only aim of worthless

The only aim of worthless insignificant idiots like this is to have people take notice of their worthless insignificant comments. Don’t.

My choice would be 105 for

My choice would be 105 for all but a best bike, tbh; it shifts really well, is reliable, and spares are readily available and not expensive

The same can be said even more economically wih the excellent Sora 9 speed. I went to 9 speed when it was cutting edge and Ultegra. I stayed with 9 on my recent new gravel bike with a double 48/32 (to go to 36/40 when it wears out) and 37mm tyres, and have been very pleased. Oil that cable and it changes very smoothly, and components are cheap!

    Neoprene here

    Neoprene here

Agreed- for long wet trips. I recently suffered quite bad hotaches wearing my new Aldi neoprenes, while hiding in country bus-shelters, but only after over 3 hours continuous rain on a fairly cold day

    I have both tubeless ready

I have both tubeless ready rims and a determination to keep using inner tubes. The entertaining thing about the rims is the noise of the beads seating. I have now worn out my first ‘tubeless tyre’, and replaced it with Marathon Plus 35mm. Another alternative is to cease riding over the hedge cutting season.

    Whether it’s the 7 speed

Whether it’s the 7 speed stuff on my 23 y/o MTB or the 9 and 10 speed STIs and drivetrains, they are just so dependable. M520 pedals that are really cheap yet last for many years of all-weather riding and a pair of SPD shoes that just won’t wear out.

Couldn’t agree more! Great gear which I’ve been using almost exclusively since the early 70s. I’ll repeat my endorsement of Aldi clothing and lights.

    Get something with discs

    Get something with discs

True, cable discs are much better. I didn’t find that out until I got a new bike, but I agree with cleaning policy and the satisfaction it gives. I find that rims are road muck magnets, but discs (on road bikes with mudguards, anyway) just aren’t. Joy- winter riding without that ‘I’m grinding your rims away’ noise.

    Fantastic and cheap Aldi

Fantastic and cheap Aldi cycling kit has only come to this area in the last couple of years. Anything you get there is worth it! The latest front and rear LED bike light pack is the best value ever at £15, and if they come back into the stores: get the packs with the 40 off long thin spoke reflectors and springy band reflectors which fit round your ankles and act as cycle clips.

    All these things are

All these things are anecdotal, and I’ve only had my Merlin (US Merlin) for 19 years- 23mm tyres, Ultegra 9 speed triple. Rather irrationally, I only take it out in good weather. I’ve only had my other ‘best bike ever’, the Vitus Substance steel 9 speed double, for a year but my comparison is that on rubbishy North Lancashire roads the titanium gives an equally comfortable ride on hard 23mm as the steel on 55-60 psi 37mm, and is about 4-5% faster.

    Excellent work Gwent Police!

Excellent work Gwent Police! I wonder if they have ever prosecuted a driver for close-passing a cyclist?

    Don’t write off Sora! I

Don’t write off Sora! I deliberately stuck with 9 speed which I first experienced with a Merlin 20 years ago, when it was top-end. 9 is enough for me. I ended up with my best general bike ever – a Vitus steel gravel with cable discs which I’ve been using for all my bike trailer trips, cycling in the rain, general travelling to nearby towns within 12-15 miles etc., for over a year and about 5000 miles. now on 3rd chain, but I have a system where I reinstall them when the chain-rings and cassette become worn, so get about 4 chains per cassette- I want to change chainrings from 48/32 to 46/30 anyway, when I’ve worn these out.

There is no point in being

There is no point in being surprised at a legal representative saying anything up to and including lying on behalf of a client- that’s what they’re paid for. The problem is judges and magistrates taking the representations seriously- you will recall the recent joke suspended sentence for a woman who killed the ‘older’ cyclist (by knocking him off so that the driver close behind could properly finish him off) near Aberystwyth because the ‘sun was in her eyes and he was wearing a distracting reflective jacket’ (not an exact quote!). Drivers are expected by the ‘sentencers’ to kill the odd cyclist, putting them in prison won’t bring the cyclist back etc. etc.

I had bad luck/ service with

I had bad luck/ service with a really badly prepared bike. I then had the opposite experience with my Vitus Substance from Chain Reaction- admirably prepared and the best general bike I’ve ever had. I think positive reports by ordinary riders on a forum could help people to buy bikes.

    perhaps we’ve reached the

perhaps we’ve reached the point where there’s nothing new to say

This is true. I know I’m always saying the same things, and we’re not making much progress over the safety problems on the roads. However, unless we club together over these repeated problems, the police can divide and rule with their collection of dodges, he didn’t see you, he didn’t mean to do it, prosecuting the driver won’t bring your brother/ son/ father back, it was only a momentary loss of concentration etc. This really is a war, and you have to keep fighting on, publicising victories (points on the licence) and defeats (new police dodges)

This is indeed a very useful link- I haven’t seen these, but will get one for my daughter. The tyres I’ve been using for years seem to be so precisely sized that I can get them on with fingers and palms.
