A new catch-all Tea Shop thread for those miscellaneous new stories that don’t quite fit with parking, crashing into buildings or trapped/prisoners in their homes.

We know she didn’t set out to
We know she didn’t set out to cause hurt that day, and this will be something she will carry for the rest of her life,” she said
And that’s the mother of one of the victims, not just the Shyster Defence lawyers! The implication is that none of the 3 deceased were wearing seatbelts (that’s not mentioned in this report, although if any cyclist involved in any accident even in broad daylight isn’t wearing Hi-Viz and a helmet, it’s mentioned all right!). I suppose it could just be an incomplete BBC report. I wonder why they quote these ridiculous decimal point speeds?!

RIP again. Three dead after some wild driving.https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cd676x8wvwpo
BBC wrote:…hitting a maximum speed of 92.6mph prior to a bend and continuing through the bend at speeds in excess of 85mph.Collision investigators said the crash occurred because the driver was “driving at significantly excessive speed for the road layout and approaching hazards of which she was warned of”.
Another driver who “didn’t set out to kill anyone” – seems to be a surprise to them, yet to outside observers it’s hard to see how they didn’t see the issue.
So we shrug again and say “I guess I did stupid things when young”? Is there any lesson to be learned between “speed kills” but “it’s a blast” and “cars are very well designed to feel safe even when you’re a fraction of a second from total loss of control”?
Guilty plea and “hasn’t driven again” – will there be prison here or “no sentence can bring them back and you will have to live with the knowledge …” etc.?

Apparently it was OK because the driver had a drink but “not now”. Two times the limit when stopped.https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/videos/cz91885w837o
BBC wrote:She admitted drink driving, driving whilst disqualified, wilfully obstructing a police officer and driving without third party insurance.Appearing for sentencing at Norwich Magistrates Court a day after the offences, she was also disqualified from driving for 80 months and ordered to pay an £154 surcharge.
Norfolk Police said she repeatedly gave false details to both the arresting officer and the custody sergeant in Wymondham
I hope things change in her life – but given that she is almost 40, was already disqualified and not insured (and not surprisingly told a bunch of lies to police) I fear her only punishment will be the fine. If they can get that off her. And they may see her again.

Bad crash near me, five
Bad crash near me, five hospitalised after three vehicle crash.
That looks like a lot of damage for a posted 30 MPH road! The grey bricks on the right side of the photo are a bike lane which is in no way protected from this crap. I use it occasionally, and have a couple of friends who use it nearly every day.
It sunk relative to the roadway after construction, so there’s a lip on the side now which had made me crash once. A friend crashed on it and had a massive lump around his eye despite wearing a helmet.

The carbrain press: the fact
The carbrain press: the fact that there are no trains from Salisbury today (Sunday) in any of four directions doesn’t merit a mention in local paper, but a driver (in England) gets stuck somewhere, we’ll go with that:

VOI – I wish them well with this – https://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/25614135.voi-campaign-help-oxford-people-share-road/. Yes, that’s empathy you’re looking for from the group that hits and runs a New Forest pony or someone’s cat (my local Facebook seems to have had a run of these since clock change).

Will this be just another “terrible tragedy” – is it just chance and personal responsibility?

Also – while thankfully he’s
Also – while thankfully he’s off the roads for a couple of years in prison (!) a) he’s only got a 7 year ban b) … which is pretty much optional given detection rates and punishments. Although I would hope if he drove during the 4 year period of his sentence he’d be recalled. But with the overcrowding currently and views on what constitutes road crime I wouldn’t bet on it (it was only youthful excess, it was only speeding, it was only an OAP who was knocking on the door anyway)…Vicious circles – prisons are also currently very poor at the rehabilitation, and I’d imagine even less when it comes to road crime. Then “we have to drive” coupled with likely extra difficulties in getting a job after years in the clink. Plus current backlogs in driving test availability and aforementioned lack of enforcement and disincentives to send people to prison … the system is virtually saying “just ignore the rules and get back behind the wheel”.

I saw the report on our local news about the “Reckless Death Crash Teen Arsehole”. Unbelievable. As well as his one handed 80 in a 30 mph zone stunt he also did the same at 130 or 150 mph on a dual carriageway.
Unfortunately somebody had to die before he was removed from the roads.
