But the insurer wouldn’t then consider pursuing a deer for the settlement!I was musing that the driver might not need to tell the insurer they know the identity of the child cyclist. If they told the insurer that a child had cycled into their stationary vehicle and run off, then it would just then be a matter of their excess and a claim on their insurance.
To be fair, I’m not really sure the driver is in a position to offer not going via their car insurance. You are supposed to inform your insurance company if you’ve been involved in a collision, no matter what.

As you say, drivers are duty bound to operate their vehicle safely around vulnerable road users, especially children. Even if a child ran out in front of a vehicle, it is still likely to be the driver at fault if they had not been driving to the conditions and failed to anticipate the collision; no matter who notionally had priority.

Many years ago, an uninsured, unlicenced driver in a vehicle with no MOT and registered as scrapped with the DVLA, ran into the back of my car.
They tried to do a runner, but thankfully their car was incapacitated. Weirdly, they actually then gave me their real contact details – they were an 18 year old living at home.
However, when it all became clear they were not insured, I had no option but to claim on my fully comp insurance. There was no hope of getting any money out of the teenager. They claimed poverty, the parents said they didn’t know where he lived most of the time as he ‘dosses down at other peoples houses’ (which I suspect was a lie). I had legal cover on my insurance and a few stern solicitors letters to the parents did eventually get them to cough up to cover the £250 excess.
I think I would just suck it up and be glad the kid is ok. What would this person have done if the damage had been caused by a wild animal, such as a deer, jumping out in front of the vehicle?

My view is it was a bit of a dodgy stunt, but I didn’t see anything risky with the riding. A lot of cyclists riding up there are putting an effort in anyway. In terms of ‘challenge’ type content, it seemed pretty tame.
Neal made a bit of a meal out of it IMO.

There are two things to
There are two things to consider here. The legal obligation of the give way lines and the highway code guidance to not turn across oncoming traffic.
In both cases the cyclist in the video had priority, as they crossed their give way line first and were going ahead (so rule 180, backed up by rule H3 applies).
Driver completely at fault.
Rule H3: You should not cut across cyclists, horse riders or horse drawn vehicles going ahead when you are turning into or out of a junction or changing direction or lane, just as you would not turn across the path of another motor vehicle. This applies whether they are using a cycle lane, a cycle track, or riding ahead on the road and you should give way to them.

There’s a car park and a bike park when you turn right off the road. If they don’t know where they’re going and are just looking for a ‘P’ and hear ‘turn right into garage’, hmm. Impressive getting past the bollard at the entrance. Maybe they need more than the one bollard?!

It trapped me the other day. I was on a public Wi-Fi hotspot, which was slow. The video wasn’t loading, so no “X” to close the video pop up, but that was obscuring the “X” on the email pop up. I laughed and took a screenshot, reminded myself never to try again on my mobile! (Which I admit is old and small, but still, many other websites work ok on it). It’s better when logged in and would be better still if I subscribed I’m sure, but if this is the experience for those who are new to the site, they’re going to quickly give up.

The plans I have seen include
The plans I have seen include cycle paths between towns too.
But you need not worry, more cycle infrastructure will mean more cyclists, which means a greater proportion of drivers will cycle or know someone who does and this will increase empathy towards cyclists.
Any competent driver can operate a car safely around cyclists, it’s a driver’s attitude towards cyclists that results in dangerous/careless driving.

It appeared to be a diesel Land Rover Discovery Sport. Interestingly there’s a recall on 37,000 vehicles for a fire risk (the second fuel leak recall here: https://www.check-vehicle-recalls.service.gov.uk/recall-type/vehicle/make/LAND%20ROVER/model/DISCOVERY%20SPORT/year/2016/recalls)
I can imagine now the hysterical reporting in some sections of the media if this had been an e-bike, e-scooter or EV. As it is, the silence is deafening on the calls to ban diesel land rovers from multi-storey car parks.
That’s going to be one heck of an insurance claim. I guess the land rover driver whose car caused it will quickly hit their policy maximum!

I guess that motorhome driver doesn’t bother looking at the road signs when he’s using his satnav, even then, I’m surprised they even made it into Mill Road in the first place, it’s not exactly invitingly wide!

CAZ fines causing problems
CAZ fines causing problems again, but why the photo that includes a cyclist? Are clean air zone’s because of cyclists? Did the bailiffs arrive on a bicycle?
Subliminal cyclist vs. drivers messaging from the BBC here IMO…
