If you’ve got photos or frame number, you can add it to the https://www.immobilise.com
website for free. If the police find it, they should check that website.

I have wondered about this myself. There’s a similar rat-run near me – it’s a village that’s been bypassed. There’s often a queue on the bypass at rush hour, but you get drivers speeding through the village in order to jump the queue; contravening the ‘no motor vehicle except for access’ signs.

When the restriction was first imposed, I saw the police had a road block around the corner and were stopping drivers, but only seemed to be offering ‘words of advice’. I’ve seen no enforcement for years. But unless the council have applied to enforce this ‘moving traffic violation’ then it is still the police who prosecute.

I would give it a go, but only on the bicycle. If you drive all the way through – even though you are a resident, you will also fall foul of the restriction. It’s not ‘residents only’ it’s ‘access only’. If the purpose of your journey didn’t require access, then even as a resident, you shouldn’t be driving down there.

    side note:
My parents used to have a holiday house on a very narrow ‘access only’ lane. It was regularly ignored. Even had an HGV get stuck and knock down their dry-stone wall. Also, some idiot when it had snowed heavily, I had spent 2 hours clearing snow off the lane, from the main road up to the house, but not beyond it – where it gets really steep. Anyway, at nearly 11pm at night, some numpty in a ‘4×4’ decides they want a challenge and drives past the house, up the steep bit that hadn’t been cleared, slid back down and got wedged sideways between the walls on either side of the narrow single track lane. Lol! Thankfully, more damage to their car than the walls. Took them 45mins to get it free.

Try refreshing the page. I was having issues with this, but not today – I got the latest page when I visited the site.
It’s possible your device has cached some erroneous javascript that’s since been fixed.

I managed to log in today from the live blog page and it didn’t spit me back out onto the homepage.

Also, pages are loading much faster than the old site. I assume a content delivery network doing its job, but a noticeable improvement.

Still getting stale pages being served, requiring a page refresh (but I know you are working on this).

Still getting logged out regularly. If I try to login from an article page, it spits me back out on the homepage. Then when I navigate back to the article, I’m showing as logged out – but if I ‘refresh’ the page then it then shows me as logged in. Some sort of caching issue?

I did try clearing road.cc cookies and that hasn’t helped.

    One thing that struck me

One thing that struck me about this case, is his driving was reckless well before the main incident occurred. They showed dashcam footage from his vehicle of him running red lights, speeding, overtaking cars that had stopped to let people cross at a pedestrian crossing, nearly running those people over.

I’m not willing accept his driving that day was a one-off either. I suspect this is typical of his standard of driving. I wonder if he’d previously close-passed a cyclist, or had other examples of his bad driving submitted to OpSnap. It would be interesting to find out if earlier opportunities to curtail his behaviour had been missed.

    I’ve just gone back and

I’ve just gone back and looked at the CCTV footage they showed of the car approaching the turning. They look to be going quite fast for a 30mph limit and my rough calculations put their speed just before the collision to be around 42mph. If this is correct, then their excessive speed no doubt played a part in them failing to notice the scooter rider and also the severity of her injuries.

They did plead guilty to that

They did plead guilty to that offence – still, not much deterrent:

”The driver blamed a momentary lapse in concentration. He admitted driving without due care and attention and was fined £360. Perceiving what was in front of him would have been very difficult.”

Now, I have previously commented that these highly reflective jackets don’t immediately scream ‘vulnerable road user’ in the same way a flashing light or biomechnical movement (shoe/pedal reflectors) would. But they look like the flipping moon is coming towards you, so how on earth you can fail to notice it is beyond me.

    No drivers involved,

    No drivers involved, apparently:

A police spokeswoman said: “This happened at about 10.50am on sunday (November 2) in Welford Road, Northampton, between the junctions of Kingsway and Northfield Way, and was a collision involving a grey Land Rover, a black Suzuki Swift, a Nissan X-trail and a grey Honda CRV. The Land Rover flipped onto its roof.

“Thankfully no one was seriously injured.”

    Fair enough. I slapped some

Fair enough. I slapped some of these on an old mountain bike and got on well with them for round town duties:

If you just want a bit more

If you just want a bit more of an upright position for round town duties, how about just getting a new stem, shorter with a bit more rise? Maybe something like this:

    https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/stems/deda-zero-18-inch-17deg-riser-stem-black-70mm/

Or even a drop bar with some rise:

    https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/handlebars/42-surly-truck-stop-drop-handlebar-318mm-clamp-12-deg-flare-black/

I think it would work out cheaper than going for flat bars and would retain the aesthetic of a road bike.
