David worked on the road.cc tech team from 2012-2020. Previously he was editor of Bikemagic.com and before that staff writer at RCUK. He’s a seasoned cyclist of all disciplines, from road to mountain biking, touring to cyclo-cross, he only wishes he had time to ride them all. He’s mildly competitive, though he’ll never admit it, and is a frequent road racer but is too lazy to do really well. He currently resides in the Cotswolds, and you can now find him over on his own YouTube channel David Arthur – Just Ride Bikes.
“It’s encouraging to see railway bike theft fall by 11 per cent year-on-year" said Sean Carney. The statistics don't say railway bike theft has fallen by 11 per cent - they say *reports* of railway bike theft have fallen by 11 per cent. It's possible (and arguably likely) that at least some of this is driven by a drop in reporting, once it was made public that BTP won't investigate most thefts.
@mitsky Looks like Crazed Audi Nutter Disorder afflicts the passengers as well, although when CAND Sufferer speaks of the 'middle of the road', he is referring to the left turn at the junction.
@ktache Indeed. He is wearing spectacles and claims the cyclist is in the middle of the road... Someone needs to go to Specsavers...
Particularly aggressive passenger, with very low observational skills. And a lack of knowledge of the highway code...
Top GEar always used CB Radio, did they not !
@Jack Sexty Well, gotta be honest, to me, it really doesn't feel that way. Big parts of it are of course direct quotes from that guy from Camelbak (I quite like their products by the way, I'm not dissing on them), so that doesn't help. Anyway, just my 2 cents of course.
@Rendel Harris Yes, it does say that, and even if it didn't, the whole vibe of the context makes that abundantly clear. My point is, if it is so clear, then also just label it as such. But apparently an editor wrote this (could have fooled me), so technically it is indeed 'By by ROAD.CC TECH', I guess.
I assume the Road CC team is drafting a post/article about this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XOdMUwRU4ZY
I don't think that comment is fair in this case. The driver had taken all the reasonable steps he could think of to check that the race had passed, before driving onto the course. Clearly more thought needs to be given to this aspect of road racing. Maybe portable stop signals could be placed at intersections where barriers aren't feasible and these are activated some time before the race passes and deactivated after it has gone. However, this will still not stop a driver perhaps with early onset dementia) emerging from a residential driveway onto the course. Risk can be reduced but not totally eliminated.
@Sredlums It says quite clearly that the article contains "paid promotion" for the product. That's more than enough to let the reader know what they're getting, in my opinion.
