    Hi all,

Apologies for the slight disruption as we complete the website migrations of road.cc, off.road.cc and ebiketips. There are still some known issues (and some still unknown no doubt), and we’re working through them as fast as we can.

We’d really appreciate any help from readers or forum users, whether that’s telling us about problems you’re experiencing commenting, or anything you see across any of the sites that’s not as it was before.

You can tell us anything you notice here, in the comments underneath articles, or by emailing us at info@road.cc – thanks for your patience and apologies again, getting there!

    Jack

Thanks very much for the positive comments a1white and gobike, it really means a lot!

Caching is still a work in progress but we understand it’s improved for some (my own situation is that I’m able to stay logged in on desktop but having problems on my Chrome browser on mobile) – hoping for better by the end of this week.

Comments/threading/general forum and commenting issues: that’s looking like next week at the moment, but will try to provide more updates by Friday.

Thanks again to all for your patience and continuing to contribute in the comments section and on the forum, even if it’s not quite as it was before (yet).

Just wanted to say, I know people are experiences problems with commenting, but I really appreciate the way you’ve handled the process. For a small company I know how tricky IT migrations like this are. I haven’t experienced the login out issues (Mac Firefox, subscriber), so I’d say it doesn’t happen to everyone, all the time.

Being able to edit posts and like forum posts again would be nice, and probably styled more like the rest of the site, but no rush on that. I know its a priority to make the the platform stable.

    Hi Jack and team,

Just adding to what Rendel and HoarseMann mentioned – I am also experiencing the caching issue where the site randomly logs me out after I try to navigate back to an article.

I know migrations are a massive headache for a site this size, so appreciate the hard work you guys are putting in to get it sorted. Take your time!

Frequently being logged out of site after closing pages then when logging in again if I attempt to leave a comment or even just like someone else’s it says I’m not logged in. After half a dozen identical attempts then I’m logged in. All previously mentioned issues including lack of edit function for comments, inability to post pictures with comments, inability to quote other’s comments, comments not showing to whom one is replying etc etc still remain.

I would have been sacked from my job by now if I cocked up like this, they would have issued me a DCM – Don’t Come Monday…..

Let’s not beat about the bush…it is bloody awful.
Unable to comment. Unable to navigate comments. ‘Latest comments’ banner rendered useless because (as mentioned elsewhere) it shows several comments for one article, rather than latest comment for each article. Old pages load, needing to refresh for latest stories.
‘Drivers and their problems’ (among others) missing from Forum. I’m sure the list could be longer but patience is short.
    Sorry, but you did ask!

    Hi all,

Huge apologies again for the continuing disruption – I wish I had some dates and times for when various fixes will be implemented, but unfortunately it’s still quite a long list. Having read through this thread we’re pretty sure every issue mentioned is noted in some form or another. At the very top is caching (which covers off being logged out after you’ve already logged in, the homepage failing to update without refreshing etc), and everything else such as disappearing content, comment threading, comment replies, being able to like comments on the forum, editing posts, quoting, lots of white space everywhere… they’re all on there, but unfortunately the developers are having to solve the more disruptive issues first.

This was always going to be a huge task for a company of our size, which is relatively very small vs the size of the website we operate. Thanks to all for your continued patience and support, we’re very much feeling the frustration too and I’m hoping to provide some clearer updates next week.

Mr Davidford: We offer payment in stickers and t-shirts for all the UAT work, drop us an email at info@road.cc 🙂

We really do appreciate it, lots of things on the fixt list are from this convo.

BTW – I haven’t received payment for any of this UAT work yet – can I double-check that you’ve been getting my invoices?

I’ve had a few comment replies that haven’t threaded properly (appeared as the start of a new thread). I’m not sure whether this is because:

    a) the reply to comment box isn’t correctly linking the comment to the previous one when submitting, or

    b) the reply link is flaky and isn’t making the reply to comment box appear in the first place, so I’m inadvertently posting in the new comment box by mistake. (Because the new comment box is now there permanently – you don’t have to click ‘post a new comment’ to open it – and the new comment and reply to versions aren’t sufficiently distinct, this mistake is a lot easier to make.)

Still getting logged out regularly. If I try to login from an article page, it spits me back out on the homepage. Then when I navigate back to the article, I’m showing as logged out – but if I ‘refresh’ the page then it then shows me as logged in. Some sort of caching issue?

I did try clearing road.cc cookies and that hasn’t helped.

Is there any reason why the sites haven’t been rolled back to when they all worked? I still have major issues logging in and lots of the threads are all over the place with comments missing, etc. Is there a target date for fixing things because I am getting tempted to cancel the sub and renew it when the sites are fit for purpose?

Okay, after giving the site redesign a few days to settle down and for me to get used to it, I really don’t like the new look. There’s too much whitespace which makes it more awkward to read the comments. The lack of comment quoting and editing is a negative too.

I don’t like the change to the “Latest Comments” – I preferred it when it showed only the latest comment on each of the more recent threads/topics. That made it easy to read the most relevant articles, whereas now there’ll be multiple links to the same article due to it having the most recent comments and other articles will fall off the carousel.

Did the forum have likes before?

Yes – comments on forum posts used to be just the same as on main site articles.
