In the final run up to Christmas, we have Scribe’s BEST SPORT 60 wheels promising race-ready speed without the elite price tag, Coospo’s bike computer targeting riders on a budget, Wahoo’s updated Kickr Core 2 smart trainer, a midweight jacket from Assos and Look Keo-compatible cleats from Vibram designed to make walking off the bike less slippery.

Whilst some of us will be using up the dregs of our annual leave days, the road.cc elves will still be busy putting the latest cycling tech to the test over the festive period. Here are the previews, with full reviews coming soon…

> Best road bike wheels

Scribe is well-known to road.cc readers, with its affordable, high-performance wheelsets regularly earning road.cc Recommends awards.

Designed for “pure speed”, the BEST SPORT wheels are made with a ratchet drive hub system, ceramic bearings and feature carbon fibre rims paired with Alpina aero carbon spokes. The rims have a 24mm internal rim width and 34mm external rim width.

Scribe says this new wheel range is aimed at riders looking to upgrade without compromising on quality. Neal Hunt will be the judge of that as he puts this 60mm deep, 1,604g wheelset to the test in the coming weeks.

The Assos Mille GTS Spring Fall Jacket S11 is described as a midweight jacket “engineered for long-distance, endurance riding in cool, wet shoulder-season conditions”.

We reviewed the Assos Mille GTS Spring Fall Jacket C2 in 2022, with George Hill praising it as an excellent jersey-like option that offers impressive wind protection and breathability.

The S11 version is said to feature updated textiles that are “more protective, more breathable, and more elastic.” We’ll see soon if Sam Smith is equally impressed.

A couple of months ago, Wahoo updated its Kickr Core smart trainer for the first time in seven years. The Kickr Core 2 adds WiFi connectivity, a sensor bridge, and the choice of a Zwift Cog and Click (a single sprocket designed to fit most 8-12 speed bikes) or an 11-speed cassette, with Nick Cox testing the Zwift Cog and Click setup.

It features Kickr Race Mode that’s found on other Wahoo models, meaning the trainer’s broadcast rate increases from 1Hz to up to 10Hz for faster power updates when you’re riding in virtual worlds. Wahoo also reckons that it’s super-easy to get the Kickr Core 2 set up thanks to flatter, more stable legs.

Wahoo claims the Kickr Core 2 can simulate gradients from -10° to 20°, has a maximum power output of 1,800 watts, and is accurate to within +/-2%.

Last year, we reviewed the Coospo Realroad CS500 GPS Bike Computer and Matt Lamy said it was a “well-specced GPS budget bike computer that even features route guidance capabilities”.

We now have the CS600 Bike Computer at the road.cc HQ which is Coospo’s top-of-the-range bike model featuring a 2.4″ LCD touch screen with colour display, map navigation and connectivity with speed, cadence, heart rate, power meters, smart trainers and more. Claimed battery life is up to 36 hours, and it weighs 70g.

Josh Price is currently putting the CS600 through its paces to see how this budget bike computer performs.
