They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so is this new Pinarello Grevil beauty or beast? Hit play on the video above to see out first look at this bold new aero carbon gravel bike and let us know what you think of it in the comments section.
Should we be surprised that Pinarello has launched a gravel bike? The Italian brand might be better known for its considerable Tour de France success and long history of road race bikes than off-road exploits, but it just goes to show how important many brands see the adventure and gravel movement that they need a suitable bike in their range.
The Grevil is an aero gravel bike which draws heavily on the company’s Dogma road race bike, with many shared features and tube profiles. There’s a concave aero down tube, odd-looking “Forkflap” to apparently smooth air over the brake caliper, profiled headset spacers and an internal seat clamp. A lot of the curves in the rear triangle are due to the asymmetric approach that Pinarello also applies to its road bikes.
Tyre clearance is generous as you’d expect of such a bike, the Grevil accommodates 650bx2.1″ tyres or up to a 42mm on 700c rim. It’s disc brakes naturally, with flat mount disc brakes and 12mm thru-axles with full internal cable routing. It’s also 1x and 2x compatible.
The model we have is specced with a Shimano Ultegra mechanical groupset with hydraulic disc brakes, and rolls on Fulcrum 650B 0DB7 Racing wheels with Vittoria Terreno Zero tyres. Price is £4,500.

Looks like they built the
Looks like they built the bike out of liquorice and then left it too close to the radiator. Hideous.

Odd that they haven’t
Odd that they haven’t incorporated the suspension system they fit in those bikes they’ve equipped Team Sky with for the last few Paris-Roubaix.
But this’ll be great for that famous-Pinarello-fan Alan Sugar. He can continue to ride his hideous Union Jack Dogma on the roads, then have a flunky waiting for him with a new Grevil for the last hundred metres or so of his gravel driveway.
Regarding the video, are the crackly sounds and flashing lights that randomly accompany about half the cuts between shots a stylistic choice, or the bugs in the video-editing software they seem to be?
I bought a carbon gravel bike
I bought a carbon gravel bike a few months ago for a bit less than £1500 once I’d got all my preferred bits on. Having an absolute blast on it.
But tripling the price I paid wouldn’t add more than a few % of difference to the performace, and it does feel around £2.5k of the extra £3k is purely for the stickers on the downtube. Appearance-wise, non-plussed and indifferent to all the HR Geiger type twiddles. Apart from the forks, which look just very very wrong.
