Which are the best cycling bib shorts? Help decide the road.cc People's Choice

We launch the road.cc People's Choice with the search for the best bib shorts...

Which are your favourite bib shorts? Does your bottom need cosseting with top-end, high-tech fabrics and pad, or do you have buns of steel that do just fine in budget shorts? In our first People's Choice survey, we hope to find out.

Read the results here.

We know road.cc readers never hesitate to tell us what you think when we review anything controversial. Our new People's Choice series is your platform to share your knowledge and tell us, the bike industry and your fellow readers about the products and places that you think are really great and that you use or visit everyday and would recommend to a friend.

We're kicking off with bib shorts because they're such a vital part of being comfy on the bike.

Here's how it works:

  1. Post the make and model of your favourite shorts in the comments. Drop in a link to where you can find them if you like.
  2. If your favourite is already there, just click the star to give it a 'Like'.
  3. The comments that get the most likes will be the road.cc People's Choice for bib shorts. Simple.

This is an experiment, of course, but if it's successful then future surveys will cover lots of other equipment, shops, cafes and so on. We might even manage to turn this into something as prestigious as the great Knot of the Year Award.

Over to you!

Update, June 25: Voting is now closed while we collate the responses. Thanks to everyone who took part!

The most comfortable shorts I've found are my Endura Coolmax bibs, I'm on my second pair, the only problem is they aren't very hard wearing, but at less than £40 they can afford to be up to a point.

I have multiple pairs of BTWIN 520 bibs from decathlon:

http://www.decathlon.co.uk/520-cycling-bib-shorts-black-grey-id_8327990....

They work for my bum and are real cheap (especially as by midsummer they're usually in the sale).

I know someone else has mentioned the 700s which have the same pad but cost a bit more and I don't want to split the vote but the 520s are great and will save you at least 10 quid on the 700s.

Any Castelli shorts with the Progetto X2 pad for me but if I had to choose one variety it would be the Body Paint 2.0 version.

Sportful Gruppetto bibshorts for me. Did the Dartmoor classic with them on last year and my bum was the only party of me that did not hurt at the end 3

Is this going to work? People have to look through all of the comments to see if their favourite is mentioned. There are already over 50 comments.

Sportful is great - basically Castelli but not Castelli prices, as they are "sister" companies.

Sportful BodyFit Pro are great shorts

I have Rapha and Assos, which are extremely good, but my favourites in terms of comfort, build and looks are Cafe Du Cycliste By a fair stretch

FOr me it is the Rapha Pro Team bib shorts
http://www.rapha.cc/gb/en/shop/pro-team-bib-shorts/product/PSH02
They are supremely comfortable for riding super hard or for long days in the saddle. The chamois is lovely - slightly different from the one in the Rapha Classic shorts and an improvement. The lycra is really supportive, the grippers deep and comfortable. Plus they look great. If you damage them crashing Rapha will do their best to repair them.
They are horrifically expensive, but this is the one area where I don't want to skimp.

Love my Vermarc Nationals. Usually the first pair of shorts I reach for on any length ride.

Best bibs I have owned (and I have owned most of the "brands")
are from http://www.redwhite.cc .

They are a growing business with great products and the best customer service I have found. The quality is second to none, the fit is excellent and overall the comfort on a long ride is excellent.

I can, and most definitely will second this. I received my first pair of Bibs from them (the KOM - http://www.redwhite.cc/kom/) just before doing a century ride and I couldn't be more impressed. They are engineered using the latest in CAD systems to provide all day comfort without any chafing or moving about. They use the micro-bead grips for the legs and they are top quality.

As to their customer service, I contacted them about sizing questions and I received a response from the designer and engineer and after taking my measurements, he pointed me in the right direction. This was all at 01:00 in his country, while it was mid-day here in the US. That certainly speaks to the quality of customer service!

If you are in the market for a new pair, do yourself a favor and give RedWhite a try. You will NOT be disappointed!

Cheers!

Surprised no one has mentioned the Sugoi RSE bib shorts yet. They're my personal favorite. The fit, fabric, and pad are "just right".

Santini Gara gel intech. I like these best. The leg is not too long, the fit is snug, and the dense gel pad is great for long rides without being too thick. Also, they arent too expensive.

The most my budget stretch to is DHB Aeron Pro, I think for their price they're excellent, no cause to complain! Lovely and comfortable over all distances (for me, anyway).
