Canyon’s Grizl has become the last word in gravel adventure, and last year, the brand updated its carbon model complete with a mental, banana-laden handlebar. True to classic Canyon form, the original bike’s carbon goodness has been brought to an alloy frame as the brand reckons that it has ‘radically refined’ the new Grizl AL.

Similar to the recent Spectral AL mountain bike models, the Grizl AL is built to be simple and easy to live with. That said, it looks like the new Grizl AL is up for anything, as it can be loaded with bags for big epics in the wilderness, run completely standard for quick gravel power hours, or even rigged up as a commuter bike.

To achieve all of that, the bike benefits from an all-new frame, which Canyon says is 120g lighter than the outgoing model. That frame is then finished off with a whole bunch of mounts, allowing riders to throw on all of the bags they’d like, as well as a ‘pizza’ rack, from Canyon. The brand has also developed a range of fast fenders that can be quickly installed should the heavens open.

Tyre clearance and fat tyres are big talking points within the gravel crowd at the moment, and the new Grizl AL aims to please. Apparently, it can accommodate up to 54mm wide tyres, despite coming with 45mm rubber as standard.

Like the carbon Grizl unveiled last year, Canyon has paid special attention to the handlebar. But rather than come with an interesting looped design, the bar fitted to the Grizl AL is designed for nothing but comfort. It gets a 16-degree flare to boost control, but the profile of the bar is shaped to reduce pressure points. Elsewhere, there’s external cable routing, a 1 1/8″ steerer, a 27.2mm seat post, and a T47 bottom bracket.

On offer are three models, with the Grizl 5 costing a rather nice £1,249. That bike runs Shimano CUES shifting, hydraulic brakes, and a carbon seatpost, so value isn’t looking too shabby at all. Prices then top out at £1,949 for the Grizl 7 ESC, which gets Canyon’s interesting Full Mounty handlebar, an updated VCLS 2.0 flexy seatpost, Shimano RX610 GRX shifting complete with a 10-51 cassette.
