    Bit of schadenfreude

But don’t they just throw them in the bin and get away with it because the relevant authority just can’t be bothered to follow them up? (we don’t have any parking problems around here)

    someone has latched onto the

someone has latched onto the freedoms granted to so-called Historic vehicles (no MOT, no ULEZ, £0 VED)

You’re living in the past! Up here in Go Ahead, Cut Red Tape Lancashire everybody is entitled to those freedoms if they have the sense to claim them. This is FN19 FSY

    This reminds me of the

This reminds me of the cyclist death down near Aberystwyth where one motorist didn’t see the cyclist ‘because of the sun’ and knocked him off, and the next motorist promptly killed him. I can’t remember the exact verdict, but I think both drivers essentially got off. The message is ‘when you can’t see because of that wicked, wicked  sun, you have to keep going/ put your foot down to ‘get out of trouble’

    Can anyone make an argument

Can anyone make an argument in favour of the policy?

The beneficiaries of the policy certainly can! Apparently, these vehicles are exempt from MOT, insurance and VED although I think you still have to pay for the petrol

As I wrote on the other topic

As I wrote on the other topic which mentioned this: Get out there and report! And then report back here. Prove the doubters like me wrong by demonstrating the actual enforcement that we doubt. My own cynical view is that nothing will happen except words of advice, and most reports will go unheeded ‘because we’re very busy’. If the police can’t even be bothered to deal with ‘No MOT’ fully-identifiable vehicles which are near to the main Preston police station in full view, and also right by the A6 which all police vehicles use to get northbound onto the motorways, then what can they be bothered with? This is F3 BDL outside the Burning Desires shop by the A6. No MOT since 29.11.23. Sister vehicle F1 BDL, which has also been spotted by me out on the road, has had no MOT since 14.4.23

It’s the duty of anyone on

    https://www.cheshire.police.uk/police-forces/cheshire-constabulary/areas…

It’s the duty of anyone on here who lives in the pilot area (Crewe) to send in those reports ASAP on the grounds that ‘cycle track’ is obviously a superset of ‘cycle lane’, so we can see what happens. My jaundiced view, based on the dodgy geezers at Lancashire police, is that this pilot will go the same way as OpSnap Lancs in which they don’t do any of the things they claim they will do, and then excuse themselves on the grounds of ‘we’re busy’

The Roads and Crime Unit will triage the report and will deal with the person responsible. This may include issuing fines or educational courses depending on the severity of the offence committed

This uses the same mode of weaselling as Lancashire, using the word ‘may’, which obviously includes ‘we may do nothing at all’. My guess is that there won’t be any fines or educational courses (such penalties being perfectly acceptable for this offence) and there will be many claims of ‘words of advice’ being offered (=worthless as a deterrent)

Great to see the police and

Great to see the police and courts getting a firm grip on these offenders

Agreed! hanging is too good for these people bringing carnage to the roads! Meanwhile, respectable motor vehicle drivers are unfairly preyed-upon by unscrupulous sneaks for only doing what everyone does- fortunately, our brave lads know exactly what to do with reports obtained by such underhand means as walking about with a camera: Bin them! Bin them! Bin them!

    https://upride.cc/incident/pj23vmc_honda125_redlightcross/

For some reason, the video of Hartley Transport and Training of Lancaster HGV D16 GHT crossing a red light hasn’t yet appeared on UpRide, so this is the scene when the light changed to amber- you know that bit about “AMBER means ‘Stop’ at the stop line. You may go on only if the AMBER appears after you have crossed the stop line or are so close to it that to pull up might cause an accident

It can’t be too hard for the

It can’t be too hard for the DVLA to get in touch with the driver, given their mobile number is on it!

I’ve done all this years ago- they don’t respond and they don’t do anything. Just like Lancashire Constabulary. In the case of the DVLA, they don’t even pretend to be interested- there’s no way to upload a photo of the offending vehicle on the road for the simple reason that your report goes straight in the bin ‘because we’re too busy’. Look at LV55 VLR here, no VED since 1.10.22. This bloke is a serial offender: on 16.11.22 no MOT and no VED. On 20th March and 13th November 23 No VED. The police declare ‘it’s nothing to do with us’ for ANY VED/ SORN offence no matter what the duration. When you point out to the police that MOT ‘evasion’ is definitely to do with them and they never do anything about that either, they just don’t reply.
