A new catch-all Tea Shop thread for those miscellaneous new stories that don’t quite fit with parking, crashing into buildings or trapped/prisoners in their homes.

Retired policeman from
Retired policeman from Swanley fined after forgetting to display blue badge at free Bluewater car park
“he forgot to display his blue badge when he parked in a disabled bay.”
“he accidentally put his blue badge in the glove compartment when asked by her to display it and when they returned to their car they found a fine for £95.”
Can’t quite be sure who was driving/whose car, but it sounds to me like the daughter is blaming anyone but herself, not least her dementia suffering father, for incurring the penalty.

‘Bad parking’ blocks
‘Bad parking’ blocks firefighters multiple times on same emergency call-out
A crew from Dogsthorpe Fire Station was delayed multiple times on their way to an incident due to inconsiderate parking on multiple roads in Millfield, according to the fire service.
They said many vehicles, in particular a van, were poorly parked narrowing the road, which prevented the fire engine from travelling. The crew were unable to proceed until they had located the owner and requested the van be moved, delaying them by around ten minutes.

No, you’re thinking of Tomy
No, you’re thinking of Tomy Capsticks Capstick Comes Home
I’ll never forget that first day at t’pit
Me an’ me father worked a 72-hour shift
Then we walked home, 43 miles through the snow, in us bare feet
Huddled inside us clothes made out of old sacks
Eventually, we trudged over the hill until we could see the streetlight* twinklin’ in our village
Me father smiled down at me through icicles hangin’ off his nose
“Nearly home now lad, ” he saidhttps://www.musixmatch.com/lyrics/Tony-Capstick/Capstick-Comes-Home
Epilogue

But it’s OK because our taxes are being used to subsidise those poor hard-done-by motorists by freezing fuel duty

When I last bought a car in 2014 petrol was £1.45 a litre.
Hardly soaring. average rent has doubled over the same time frame.
War on tennants is closer to the truth than war on motorists.

It’s condemning the elderly to isolation because insurance costs have jumped again (in general, but why the old they ask?)
* TBF the higher status / wealthier like to live apart from the proles and the tanneries. I’m recalling various reportage from the 19th century which often had “we had to rise before 5 as it took us over an hour to walk to the factory / mine / market …”

Because it’s a marathon and not a bike ride.

“Although other neighbours
“Although other neighbours were outside, nobody else had thought to alert her mum and siblings because there was no car on the drive so they didn’t realise they were home.”
So if the 6-year-old hadn’t happened to have been outside in view of the house at the time, they would all have been left to die, just because they had no car in front of their house.
