Ultimatley you’re not average, so you fall between the gaps in the market.. so you should look to get a proper bike fit before buying the next one.. if you’ve got the cash to do this, it should be well worth it. A lot of fitters now will size you up to suitable frames/bikes and some shops offer this as a service where it costs nowt if you get the bike from them afterwards.. this is a more boutique than buying a stock bike off a stock website to save some cash.. but it’s probably well worth the effort and a better answer for you.

I did it a few years ago.. there’s a couple of drags and one hill (Ditchling) near the end.. however once over Ditchling, it’s downhill all the way to the finish.
Get off in an earlier group, take your time, enjoy the lunch stop and be wary of the traffic, as they can get a bit tetchy about 1000 bike riders slowing them down on their way to Waitrose.

Stop everything and rest, then go see a sports physio (not a normal one). Who’ll probably say keep off it, and rest.
The only thing you should massage on your knee in this case I’d say is to gently massage away any fluid build up.
If you can ‘feel’ a trigger point, it may feel better but it aint fixed yet and if it’s ligament stuff.. don’t massage it, I’m not a doctor, or very clever, but I’ve had enough injurues to remember not to massage ligament issues.

Shimano is one of the most trusted of all the brands out there, maybe that doesn’t mean much, but I’d trust them to put an aluminuim brake track in the right place. Beyond that, it’s down to the brake pads you use.

However saying that, they are very narrow for a wheelset these days, where wider is considered better.. I’d be looking at a handbuilt set, or some Mavic Ksyrium Pro’s or some Fulcrum Racing Zero’s for the same’ish price as the Shimano’s…

Your sit bones are ‘missing’ the flat part… erm that’s not clear, however it says to me that your saddle isn’t in the right position or your fit is wrong. You should be comfortable sitting/riding on the wide part of your saddle, as it’s difficult to see where you are sat, then on a normal saddle you should expect to see about an inch and a half of the nose of the saddle protruding.
There’s more to this however, consider your shorts.. some shorts are more ‘pro’ fitting which often means that they have the pad further forward (Rapha Pro bib shorts), where other shorts are more ‘normal riding’ fitting with the pad further back (Rapha Classic bib shorts). I have very flexible hips, so the pads more forward suit me far better than a pad further back.. it just means that if I put a pair of shorts on which are ‘normal’ I’ll position them further forward than they might usually sit.
Get some chamois cream to stop the ‘chaffing’. I forgot to put some on and chaffed my willy the other month on a long ride.. not nice.

I see this quote alot about buying the best frame you afford and I am having the same dilema as the OP (also considering Trek SL & SLR frameset). If the only real difference between the hi-mod to normal frame is the weight then surely for bigger riders like me at 82kg the few hundred grams saved in frameweight is so minor its not worth the extra. But if someone can say the ride is so much better in terms of power transfer or compliance with the more expensive & lighter frame then I would spend the extra money and get cheaper components.
As it stands I am leaning towards the non hi mod for Cannnondale or the Trek SL frameset but built with SRAM Etap as oppose to hi-mod or SLR with Di2.
It is such a difficult decision deciding the point at which the frame costs are just not worth the extra.
When I went from a cheap TCR frame to a ‘spensive’ TCR frame.. it took me a while to identify the differences. However differences there are. The cheap frame felt solid and lifeless (don’t get me wrong I loved that bike and it served me very well) but in comparison to the ‘spensive frame, the difference is minor but it is significant I’m not going to bang on about weight and how much better it ‘feels’ but one thing I can put my hand on is that general road chatter is lessened. Which might not sound much but if you’ve ever felt your arms or shouders fatigued after a big ride, then that’s tangible. I ride mainly 20-30miles rides, and on these rides I notice the bike feels more secure and solid, again in part not doubt due to less road chatter.
If you listen to the marketing, there will be different lay up’s of the carbon in the high end frames, which probaly means there are more pieces of carbon to lay out and it takes a bit more time to make a frame.. At the end of the day I still get creamed by people on cheaper bikes than me, in fact the fastest kid in the club rides a sodding Carrera Zelos for half of the year and still smokes everyone up the hills.

Get the best frame you can afford and upgrade the parts along the way.
Whether the best frame will make you an extra £900 faster is debatable, but if you can afford it, get it, it’s only money and you only live once.
However a consideration for you.
I’m a big fan of Ultegra so no issues with that over Dura Ace, however I do believe that you should go and feel the difference between the hydro Di2 levers and the hydro mechanical (non di2 levers) as they ‘feel’ a world apart. If I’d actually hands on felt the levers before I purchased my mechanical Ultegra Hydro, I’d have found the extra cash for Di2 Ultegra ones.

I’ll second you Boastie, but don’t use wd40 on your chain it is not a lubricant, stick with oil.

You sound like the sort of person who likes detail. A fresh, professional bike (and cleat) fit should be a priority for you IMO. It’ll be worth every penny to you in the long run.

I echo all of the above I don’t think you’d have buyers regret getting any of them.. however I’d suggest as you’ve suggested that this bike should last you for a bit then get the best frame possible for the money. To me that looks like the High Mod Cannondale or the Defy Advanced SL.
You can get 10% off the price of the Giant by being nice to my local LBS and I suspect if you haggled hard enough you could upgrade the SLR1 wheels to SLR0 wheels and come within your budget.(Giant’s top end wheels are VERY VERY good and you’ll save £ in the long run if you upgrade from the oft).

I’m not sure I’m getting all the fuss about these velo Birmingham and velo South rides..
They have extraordinary pricing!
The UK has silly pricing for most organised rides, but this takes the Michael. CSM Ltd is a totally commercial entity, not for charity, chaired by Seb Coe. They rode roughshod over residents around Brum last year and had to move the route twice.. is all the fuss becuase it’s closed roads? There are other closed road rides in the UK. The routes themselves don’t appear to be anything particuarly amazing..
Why are the national cycling press and seemingly every third person I speak to going ape over this? What am I missing?
