I’m a bit late to this party.. but I thought I’d chime in.
1) Do NOT use regular innertube patches on the inside of tyres, they are too thin. I know I’ve tried. You need some tyre patches for tubeless, they are slightly thicker and stronger than tube patches but just as cheap.
2) Sealant.. I know it’s probably less of a problem than it was a few years ago.. BUT my recomendation for higher pressure tyres (after having gone through a few totally useless other brands sealant) is ‘Effetto Mariposa Caffelatex Tyre Sealant’ OR ‘Bontrager TLR Tyre Sealant’. The latter has an option for a handy little 90ml bottle which you can carry with you if you go bikepacking. – Both work and that’s all you need to know.
I’ll agree Schwalbes do tend to cut more than other tyres I’ve used but that’s irrelevant in the scheme of things as with a decent tubeless set up you shouldn’t care or notice the cuts.
If you don’t get tubeless set up ‘perfectly’ then it’s a pain in the arse, however, once you know how to set it up right, it’ll convert the biggest luddite. Believe me anyone who’s had a bad experience with tubless has not done it right despite them attesting to knowing everything.. the brand of sealant is often a big factor here.
For context, sealant has been around for a bit, MTB’ers love it they’ll whack in 100ml of it per tyre without a thought for weight or PSI or how to get the tyre bead seated. I use 40ml per tyre and run my tyres at up to 85psi. Some sealants will not seal at 85psi.. I’ve tried a further three well known brands of sealant none of which would seal at high pressure.. I found that those others would seal or start to seal at around the 45-65psi range

I think it reads that the bobby ‘can’t be sacked’, I’m sure there’s some HR reason for this but I’m jiggered if I know it.

Not sure this is a usual year.. stocks of 2022 bikes are high for most brands as bikes aren’t selling through and discounts are happening…

What the hell! That is
What the hell! That is actually mental.. he crashed a BMW X5 into an Audi A1 from behind at 49mph.. got asked ‘what happened there?’ by his fellow passenger police colleague and subsequently drove off while his colleague asked his ‘aren’t you going to stop’ to which he just shrugged his shoulders.. and carried about his day.. not even reporting it when he got back to base.. and then when asked why he didn’t stop claims “I haven’t stopped and reported it because I have no recollection of it happening, and I believe that’s due to the fact that I have had an episode of trans global amnesia.”
That’s pretty bad behavious from the police.. BUT I’m more concerned about the ‘trans global amnesia’ nonsense.. does that mean anyone can commit a crime and just say they can’t remember it happening and that’ll be that then? … Sorry mi’lud.. I can’t remember driving into anyone, do you have proof that I was behind the wheel at the time, becuase y’know, sometimes I let my family drive the car and I suffered a bout of trans global amnesia y’know…. I mean I know we’ve seen this bollocks excuse in other cases, but surely this loophole needs closing.. how do we get loopholes closed in the law?

What an interesting idea.. I kind of love it, might it be a bit like a ‘light’ version of a 15min city.. a five minute suburb ?
Oh.. but you do have my advanced sympathies,,, for all of the moaning you are about to bear witness to, the CAVE dwellers, the NIMBYS, the Karens and Kevs will have a field day on this!

That is a ‘special one’.
That is a ‘special one’. Literally no mention of bad driving or the driver in the whole article.. I think it’s been written so we can all feel sorry for the occupants, one of which needed rescuing, but the other climbed out himself.. Those poor young males, they had no chance against the might of those big wide lanes curb and railings.. it must have been because the hotel had no hi-viz on.. or maybe a cyclist pushed them down there.

The best pair I had were a pair from PedalEd.. and I think they were marketed something along the lines of ‘as tested on the transcontinental race’.. to be fair they were brilliant and I was gutted when in a haze of oxygen deprived brain + booze I left them stuffed behind a radiator in a hotel room on the south coast and caught the train home to the midland (poor cleaners finding those stinky bad boys).
Now you can get specific ‘gravel’ or ‘long distance’ bibs for extra rough or long rides.. but I just use my plain old normal assos ones and haven’t had any major problems.. although I am still a bit bitter about loosing those pedaled ones and have over the past few years elevatesd them to ‘pillow like bottom comfort’ in my own brain..

I’ve run Schwalbe tubeless
I’ve run Schwalbe tubeless since road tubeless was a thing.. and when set up they’ve been amazing tyres.. I have had some quality control issues (e.g. two which seeped sealant ‘loads’.. another which the sidewall casing came apart) but I’ve stuck with them because they have generally been fantastic… however I recently swapped to Conti 5000 tubeless because of the real world tyre sizes. I used to run a 23mm/25mm F/R Schwalbe which came up at 26&28.5mm. I now run 25/28 F/R Contis which come up at 26/28mm. In the past few months of running the Conti’s.. I must say I like em.. they feel fast and assured…and if anything maybe slightly grippier than the Schwalbes.
I personally have no problem riding either Schwalbe Pro Ones or the new Conti’s 5000’s tubeless. I’ve found (the hard way) that it’s all in the initial set up (and sealant.. that’s a huge factor but perhaps not in this context).

Bath seems to have a far better quality of NIMBY/CAVE than I do.. you lucky bar stewards!
In all cases I can’t help but be reminded of 1) ‘Down with this kind of thing’ from Father Ted and 2) “Help! Help! I’m being repressed!” from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

At first glance I thought OMG that’s ridiculous.. then I remember that we cycle a couple of junctions of the A45 sometimes on a sunday morning.. admittedly it’s not got any cycling infra so a different conversation but then I looked at this road and thought ‘the surface of that sliproad looks luxurious!’
Still, it’s a bit of a liberty to call that cycling infrastructure by whoever it was who signed it off, certainly does not look very family friendly.
