This has been shared around
This has been shared around my whatsapps today.. I did it and i was surprised and a little concerned tbf.
If you’ve got 20mins.. why not see just how close all the parties policies/bribes/lies appear to be.. https://voteforpolicies.org.uk/

I don’t have much to
I don’t have much to contribute to this rather indepth scare thread other than to remind people that our party political system is not fit for purpose and that whichever one of the parties you vote for we’ll just have yet another bunch of career politicians trying to save their own arses when people start asking why they’ve not done what they said they would, or fixed this or that.. or getting called out for dodgy expense claims or giving large contracts to mates… I can see why people are going to vote reform.. of nothing else it’s a ‘new’ name on the ballot card and people are just fed up to the back teeth with both the useless cons and the inept labs..
I did hear a voice on the radio the other day, some professor from some uni saying that there were ways to engage with the electorate more and ask them the questions that needed asking when making bigger decisions while within government (not waiting for a four year ballot to choose policies to vote for).. this did seem like a refreshing change of narrative that in my years on this earth I hadn’t heard communicated within the media before.. I wonder if that denotes a step change in how our useless leaders might actually engate politics in the future sometime.. ?
It’s a shame that, us the people, are corralled and cajoled into making decisions based on highly emotive subjects and we’re simply not presented with a bunch of facts and figures and options, I mean why can’t we vote on strategies and not for parties. The idelogical standpoints of cons/labs/libs/greens are simply not there any more.. Why are we forced into voting for one party when we should be voting for the best and brightest strategies and ideas to move gov.uk forward. Why don’t the government engage with us like adults instead of children? Why do we allow them to engage with us like this? (answer because for most of us, there isn’t a lever to change it)

Hey Mr Grumpy.
Hey Mr Grumpy.
I’d say from my experience, this is just bad luck on sealants. Not all sealants are the same. I run 23/25/28mm tyres at 80ish PSI and have been tubeless since schwable annouced their Pro-Ones years and years ago, I had a pair off a rep before they were in the shops. Anyway, I’ve made all the mistakes, I now use (and have done for years) two brands which I know work 1) Effetto Mariposa Caffelatex Sealant and 2) Bontrager TLR Sealant.
The only thing I absolutley do make sure I do before using is shake the hell out of the bottles as the bits of stuff that fill the holes will get attached to the bottom of the bottles.
Both are injected through the valve (but I do not use the very thin tubes which can come with syringes as the bits of stuff that fill the holes can often not go through. I use a bit of clear PVC tubing (approx 5 or 6mm) which goes over the presta valve as opposed to in it (cleaner and easier to squirt it in that way also).

Name the club.
Clubs need to know when their ‘acceptable riding’ is unacceptable.

the little onion wrote:I think the principle problem is that dangerous (and careless) driving is defined in law as relative to “the minimum standard expected of a competent and careful driver”. So you are asking a bunch of other drivers in the jury to assess whether this driver was much worse than them. Given the number of drivers you see on their phone, or parked dangerously, or whatever, the standard of competence and care is very, very low.I would favour a move that would define careless and dangerous driving as driving that would constitute a major fault in a driving test.
It beggers belief that ‘UK driving test standards’ are NOT what defines exactly what careless or dangerous driving is to begin with.. when the laws were defined, surely that’s exactly what was meant. Where or rather when did the judiciary decide that UK driving test standards were to be considered higher than that of ‘actual’ UK driving standards?

Starting with today’s
Starting with today’s travesty.. as covered by road.cc… four counts of Causing death by ‘careless driving’… how is this not dagerous driving?
A motorist who drank a bottle of vodka, as well as taking cocaine, ecstasy, and cannabis at a party, before striking and killing a cyclist and fleeing the scene – and later lying to police officers about his identity, showing no remorse for his actions – has been sentenced to six years and nine months in prison, and banned from driving for a further two years.

Do bikes like these need to
Do bikes like these need to be looked after like a fragile prince/princess?
– Often yes.. road debris will be more common in winter = scratches, plus some posh wheel hubs don’t like the wet/damp.
Do they need to be cleaned after every use?
– That’s up to you.. but ‘best practice’ would be to give it a quick wash I’m sure.
Do they require really elaborate servicing?
– Nope. Same as every other bike.. (apart from if you have posh bearings in things, they can take things to a whole new level)
Do people who own them keep them for spring & summer only?
– I have a upper middle class bike, it gets used 90% in the dry and only on the odd occasion in Winter.
Are they particularly iffy when the roads are frosty?
– Its the tyres which touch the road not the other parts, so no more iffy than any other bike to ride.
I try not to ride much in the winter nowadays but have done my share of inclement weather rides for sure.. I’d say for any bike, Winter can be hard on them, regular cleaning is a must, when brakes were ‘rim’ then you could wear through wheels quickly if you weren’t careful although I’d like to think that’s mitigated somewhat by discs now.. the key things I used to do were fit mudguards badly, get frustrated with them and then remove them and stick with an ass saver.. either change tyres for something larger or just lower the pressure a bit in existing tyres for more grip, be extra careful around roundabouts, never underestimate a puddle, I would also generally have to replace my lower headset bearings once a year after a winter (but that’s probably more bike model related than something everyone does)..
Key takeaway here is, don’t buy one high end bike, buy two bikes, one high end one and one cheap one for winter. Winter miles = summer smiles.

chrisonatrike wrote:Yup. You can add to “sudden unexpected events” things like “in winter sometimes the roads are weirdly slippy”.Then the perrenials of “sometimes lots of water falls out of the sky and this impairs vision and makes the car handle funny”, “some mornings and evenings the sun appears right on the horizon in front of you, depending on which way you’re heading” plus “at night it can get dark and hard to see!”
All that is irrelevant however because “I had to drive“.
It’s clearly not their fault that the weather changes.. so why should they change how they drive. How they drive is 95% perfectly accident free for most of the year so they must be right.
