Good morning at the forum. I would like to ask your opinion about the Dura Ace WH-R9100-C40-CL and the performance in braking. Has anyone having a problem with brake system of this wheels?
I’m asking why I read that Dura-Ace R9100 C24 wheels had a serious problem with the front wheel brake system

If you’re talking about the braking problem joeegg discusses, then yes I’ve experienced this. I ended up having the wheelset replaced about 4 times through warranty – so it’s seemingly a known problem. It didn’t make the bike dangerous to ride in my opinion, though for that much money you’d hope to not have such an issue. In the end I got a set which were ok, not too grabby though on occasion it still does it. Using Swissstop pads made a big difference – the Dura-ace brake pads (or any Shimano ones that fit the Dura-ace brakes) were pretty poor in comparison.

Search online for “C24 Brake Concerns” and I’m sure you’ll find a few threads.

Well that’s good to know, I wasn’t aware of this, but I am now.

    You are right about braking
You are right about braking problems with C24’s. The problem should have been resolved by now as mine are a few years old. The problem was the braking track as the brake would grab then release repeatedly. It was a known fault and you’ll probably find it on older forums. It did make the bike too dangerous to ride.I swapped mine out for Racing 3’s which feel stiffer for more or less the same weight.

    Where have you read bad

Where have you read bad things about these wheels?

A very popular wheeler, and this is one of the latest in the series, since it was introduced many years ago.

The only thing I’ve seen in relation to these wheels is one collapsing when the carbon fairing became unglued after a prolonged Alpine descent, but that’s down to poor rider skills, not a problem with the design?  That’s only one I can remember and thousands of this type of wheel have been sold in Dura Ace or RSC24 form.

Any carbon rim would have struggled under that kind of braking load

Shimano is one of the most

Shimano is one of the most trusted of all the brands out there, maybe that doesn’t mean much, but I’d trust them to put an aluminuim brake track in the right place. Beyond that, it’s down to the brake pads you use.

4.5 out of 5 review on this very site – http://road.cc/content/review/215130-shimano-dura-ace-c24-carbon-clincher-wheelset

However saying that, they are very narrow for a wheelset these days, where wider is considered better..  I’d be looking at a handbuilt set, or some Mavic Ksyrium Pro’s or some Fulcrum Racing Zero’s for the same’ish price as the Shimano’s…
