I’m in the market for a new set of overshoes and I’m struggling to be honest.

    Forum advice wanted please!

I know what I DON’T want. I don’t want a pair of neoprene overshoes, I’ve got a pair of deep winter Polar Overshoes and I find the feel of them horrid (like I’m peddling in wellies).

…And I don’t want a pair of those, what can only be described as condoms for shoes as they look; 1) like they’d sufforcate my feet 2) cold

I currently have a pair of plastic’ish overshoes, I wear them over the top of some thermoroubaix (?) toe covers, they are easy to get on and off, not restrictive wind and waterproof on the top (obvs not underneath as such) however they soon ‘holed’ and despite stitching and re-stiching they’ve shredded after a couple of seasons.

I don’t expect miracles, I rarely ride in downpours, I’d just like a pair that felt a bit warmer in winter and don’t feel like wellies.

I feel that someone somewhere is missing a trick with overshoes, there MUST be better fabric or design our there which would solve ‘everyone who cycles in inclement weather’ problem with their feet.

    Any recommendations?

Also the cost of these things can be outrageous, I don’t mind paying £40 for a good pair but anything above that and I may as well spend the money better on a pair of specific winter shoes for about a £100

I love rollers in winter, but

I love rollers in winter, but have noticed that my out of the saddle efforts suffer come springtime.

I can’t see how you can have a reduced FT rate in reality. By which I mean that your heart beats the same. However there are a million external factors which could affect the different readings between in and outdoors.

I agree with DaSy… “Ultimately as long as you are going full bore on the rollers and your workouts move forward on FTP power over time, then all is good”

    The Propel is generally known
The Propel is generally known as a bit more rounded as an aero bike as it’s generally lighter and stiffer for climbing than others.
The merida is known as a full on aero bike, so does lose some points on frame weight.

However as anyone who knows will tell you, that’s only part of the story, where can you buy from, service, support, most important the fit of these bikes will be different.

My mate rides an Ultegra version of this frame. He loves it. Light frame, value for money.

I’m not sure there is a review request process other than sticking it on the forum and hoping someone sees it, however I wouldn’t hold your breath. You’d be better off emailing Canyon and ask them why they’ve not sent one to road.cc for review as yet!

what’s the main difference between the Defy and the TCR Advanced ? Cant work it out!

In a nutshell, geometry, the defy is their bike for more comfortable cycling (higher front end), the TCR is a race geometry bike (lower front end).

Both are excellent, the Defy has won gawd knows how many awards over the past few years. the TCR also.

Dont know about best, but most common for me goes a bit like this…

‘they wear/it’s worn out, it’s a consumable, I need this/these or I can’t ride my bike’ often accompanied by ‘we can’t argue with saftey, we do not want to have hindsight from a hospital bed do we’

    Nice problem to have, you
Nice problem to have, you could stick a pin in the UCI rankings and pick an awesome bike with that cash.

I’d be tempted to go to my local ‘specialist fitters’ (GC Bike Fit) they could order a made to measure frame from the likes of Independant Fabrication and order and build it into a dream bike around me.

From the two bikes you’ve mentioned, I think we’ve similar tastes… tough to choose, big fan of both, I want to say the Felt AR, if it weren’t for that pesky bottom bracket located rear brake.

£1500 gets you a very nice
£1500 gets you a very nice Canyon or Rose bike… it’d also get you a Disc Equipped Giant Defy, which probably would be all you’d need.

The CAAD8 SORA is a great crit frame, components are only just entry level – it’d make a perfect winterbike (put some 25/28mm tyres on and work on lower pressure to increase grip.

I’d look very seriously at the god knows how many years it’s won bike of the year Giant DEFY Advanced 2 @ £1399 (Ultegra, disc brakes, carbon, decent finishing kit).
You can probably knock another £100 or get a bike fit thrown in for buying local 🙂
