Following some detailed research, I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s the sharp jagged bits on the cassette and chainring that cause the chain to wear. Since filing them down smooth, my chain lasts forever.

You then put the partially worn chain back on and use it a bit longer until it is a bit mor worn then you take it back off and use the other partially worn chains. Eventually you get to the point where you realise that you have a totally worn out chain and bin it, the other cahin(s) in the roatation soon follow and so you end up replacing all 3 chains and, more importantly, all 3 chains have been used on the transmission until the point at which they are fully worn (streteched if you prefer that term). Expalin to me, with proof, not anecdotes, how that is better than using one chain at a time.I’m not a proponent of it, but I’d say the idea is to try to match the wearing of the chains with the wearing of the cassette. Without chain rotation, you end up matching a brand new chain with a part-worn cassette (e.g. after replacing the first chain you used with it), but with rotation you’re using a part-worn chain with it. I don’t see that it should make much difference though.

I suspect I need to up my bike maintainence process and give the chain a deep clean, rather than a cursory brush.
The trick to making chains last longer is definitely keeping them as clean as possible. Wax instead of oil is recommended as it doesn’t turn into a grinding paste by sticking to the grit and dust. If you use oil, then you’ll be wanting to clean it as often as possible and definitely before re-oiling it.

Reacher was okay, first few episodes were a bit slow but last three went at a cracking pace.
Think I’m going to try Three Pines on Amazon next – I’ve been told that is very good.
The Expanse is superb – hard sci-fi that has realistic space battles. The first few episodes suffer from poor sound mixing, but it gets better.May 27, 2023 at 9:12 am in reply to: Cycling infrastructure: Feeling smug that the authorities have got my back. #1013733

The wider strips of road might even get a Very Large cycle symbol; or even a “cars-forbidden” red circle with a slash through it.But would the white vans and proto-hummers confine themselves to the gutters, as we cyclists in the towns are expcted to do? I feel not; and the repainting might even stimulate Lazza Fux to come out ranting and swivelling his funny little eyes!
Would it not be possible to prosecute the “designers” of these white-line murder strips for gross dereliction of thinking or even person-slaughter? But I suppose it would take 8 years for the case to come to court, by which time there might only be vigilante-justice available, anyway, from taxi drivers and fat baldy men with sticks, dressed in cobbled-together uniforms.

Well, that’s certainly an attempt.
I’m starting to think we should get school kids to design bike lanes and the best ones get implemented for a time. It’d be like putting up kids artwork, but would probably be more effective and entertaining than this gutter decoration.

Lower Decks looked like a tweenager comedy from the trailer. Can only be an improvement on the 1970s TAS – who remembers?
I recently grabbed a copy of the 1970s TAS though I don’t remember watching it at the time. It’s not considered to be any good though – I was just trying to be completist with my Star Trek collection.
Lower Decks is worth a watch though it could well be described as a tweenager comedy.

I think Poker Face is now streaming in the UK – that’s nothing to do with SciFi, but almost a hark back to a Columbo style detective series starring Natasha Lyonne (Russian Doll). It’s a lot of fun and gives Natasha plenty of space to shrug a lot. Also features appearances by actors such as Ron Perlman, Adrien Brody, Nick Nolte, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Hong Chau, ChloĂ« Sevigny, Luis GuzmĂĄn, Stephanie Hsu…
