‘Lorries keep driving into my house’ but council plans to make lorry access even easier

A rat-run lane near a primary school which is often used as a cut-through could soon be blocked off. Due to several ‘incidents of vehicles overturning’, Bristol City Council is planning to close Rosemary Lane on the border between Easton and Eastville to cars. This is what’s required – close roads to vehicles if the drivers can’t keep them the right side up

Maybe drivers should take a little bit of care around zebra crossings?

Thought I’d stick my oar in
Thought I’d stick my oar in here, despite never having used Claris or Microshift.
The shifter is basically just pulling the cable by a fixed amount, so it’s bizarre that you can manually pull the cable and the cage moves out, but the shifter can’t be made to do that by tightening the cable. I can understand if the shifter pull amount is not quite right, that it can’t properly shift the cage to all three positions, but that doesn’t seem to be what’s happening here.
Could it be that the cable is somehow slipping within the shifter and thus not pulling correctly at higher tension? I’d be tempted to open up the shifter and verify that everything looks to be working properly.

Looks like we’ve got Reform council member getting suspended: https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2025/nov/06/reform-uk-suspends-another-member-kent-county-council-isabella-kemp
Bizarrely, the BBC which absolutely LOVES giving as much coverage to Reform as possible has completely missed that story.

Labour say negatives of East
Labour say negatives of East Bristol Liveable Neighbourhood outweigh positives: https://www.bristol247.com/news-and-features/news/labour-say-negatives-east-bristol-liveable-neighbourhood-outweigh-positives/
They’re calling for the following measures:
- the bus gates on Avonvale Road and Marsh Lane to be turned off immediately
- compensation provided to businesses affected by the scheme
- the removal of the measures on Ducie Road bridge
- the replacement of planters on Cobden Street, Ducie Road and Lincoln Street with resident access only gates
- urgent improvements and redesign of the Blackswarth Road and Church Road junction
- expanding the monitoring of roads surrounding the EBLN to see how steeply traffic is increasing.
I’m not so sure about immediately changing the implementation as that will invalidate the trial (has it been going for 6 months yet?). Certainly, the Blackswarth Road/Church Road junction is abysmal and has needed a complete redesign since forever – that’s little to do with the EBLN and everything to do with it being a bad design. The number of times that drivers turn left from Blackswarth Road when there’s no left turn and of course that brings them into direct confrontation with the peds using the pedestrian crossing on Church Road. The junction also requires competence from drivers that are turning as they can easily block other drivers.

The Taliban have condemned Reform UK’s treatment of women, insisting they would never work with a party who refused to sack an MP convicted of assaulting his ex-girlfriend.

haruto wrote:I had major issues before I got a waterproof car seat cover. Every time it rained or I took my dog out, the seats would end up soaked and muddy. Spills from coffee or water bottles left stains that were hard to clean and made the car smell musty. Since I didn’t have any protection, the fabric wore out quickly. That’s why I switched to the Stablela waterproof cover for car seat – now everything stays clean, dry, and easy to wipe down. That sounds really useful. I’ve often wondered what I should use when taking my squirrels out – do you have any suggestions on how to waterproof squirrels so that they don’t get wet in the rain?
