Two friends have cycled to all 20 Premier League stadiums in England to raise money for a children’s hospice.
Chris Scott and Shaun Spence covered 850 miles (1,367km) in eight days in aid of Acorns Children’s Hospice. They started at Newcastle United’s ground St James’ Park and finished at Southampton’s stadium, St Mary’s on Saturday at about 17:00 BST.
The pair, both aged 37 and from Wythall, wanted to support the hospice, whose headquarters in Worcestershire, is at the end of their roads, The BBC reports.

Roglic takes risks even on rest days
Following his ‘no risk, no glory’ antics at the Vuelta last week, yesterday, on the rest day, Roglic posted a picture showing he isn’t afraid to take a few, potentially Grand Tour ending risks, even when he’s not on a bike.
While I’m sure Rog is more than capable of balancing on a railing, some people who saw the picture did question whether it was the best idea, with one person commenting ‘Team Movistar approves this’.
Data study reveals the United Kingdom provides 2.6 per cent of top cyclists in the world
A new study has ranked the percentage of top tier cyclists from each country.
The interactive data set, produced by the Global Odds Index, also ranks a persons’ odds of being a professional rider, based on their nationality.
Topping the list of pro-cycling producing countries was Italy, at 9.3 per cent, with France at 7.6 per cent and Belgium at third, 7 per cent.
The UK was unsurprisingly a little lower down narrowly ahead of Denmark at 2.45 per cent.
The tool also allows you to do the same thing for other sports, such as football, tennis and athletics.
Palace unveil first bike in collaboration with Cannondale
London skateboarding brand Palace has teamed up with Cannondale to produce a unique looking new bike which they call the ‘Mad Boy.’
Palace’s first bike gives a new name to the Bad Boy, the signature hybrid city bike from Cannondale.
Pricing has yet to be announced, but the Mad Boy bike could cost around $2,000 (£1,452) when it goes on sale on Friday.
School urges parents to walk or cycle as it bans dropping off kids in cars
A school has banned parents from the surrounding roads at pick up and drop off times, in a bid to tackle traffic levels.
Cadland Primary School was one of three selected for Hampshire County Council’s School Streets trial, which will involve roads being closed off to parents during drop-off and pick-up.
The hope is that parents will walk or cycle their children to school, with affected roads remaining open to residents, emergency services, blue badge holders, deliveries and businesses, the Lymington Times report.
Local counsellor, Alexis McEvoy, said: “It comes to the point where you have to say enough is enough.
“The situation has been that parents are trying to jockey for position to park, and I have even seen parents stopping and letting their kids out onto the main road.
“The other issue is the inconvenience for those who live there, and the health implications of exhaust fumes, particularly for the little ones.
“No doubt there will be some complaints. Parents will say they are in a hurry, but they will just have to leave earlier.”
Bike repair shop applies for booze licence
A bicycle repair shop has applied for an alcohol licence meaning people can have a pint while they wait for their bike to be fixed.
Honeysuckle Wood Bicycle and Retro Homeware submitted a licensing application to serve alcohol for consumption on and off the premises, Wales Online reports.
The shop is also, of course, located in a building that used to be a pub.
The application for the licence says: “We wish to expand our business to offer teas and coffee, but also a chance to try local craft beers that are supplied by local micro breweries.”

Sarah Storey closes on outright British Paralympic record after time trial gold
Sarah Storey won her second gold medal of Tokyo 2020 in the C5 time trial on Tuesday morning. In doing so she also drew level with the swimmer Mike Kenny as the most successful British Paralympian of all time.
The 43-year-old dominated the time trial, winning by 92 seconds as British team-mate Crystal Lane-Wright took silver. Storey now has the opportunity to win a 17th gold in Thursday’s road race.
Campaign launched to remind motorists that 'cyclists are also people'
A new social media campaign seeks to highlight to motorists that every cyclist is also a person with a family.
Joanne Ness, from Birmingham, launched the “More than a Cyclist” message after a fatal crash involving a friend.
Last year, 140 cyclists died on Britain’s roads.
The images, released as part of the campaign, show “the human face of a cyclist” and remind motorists “please just give us two metres”.
“Cars are machines, they’re killing machines,” she said. “Roads are there to be shared – please don’t hurt us.”
Praising the graphics, road.cc readers suggested a campaign of leaflets, similar to anti-littering posters, might also be useful.

Woman jailed after stealing bike from inside police station
A woman has been jailed after she stole a bike from inside a police station.
Jane McGrath, from Warrington, took the bike from a cycle store in the van dock area of Cheshire Police’s facility in Runcorn at around midday on Saturday, August 21, Runcorn and Widnes World report. Police say McGrath also caused ‘unsanitary damage to a cell’ after being arrested.
The force did not clarify if it was a police bicycle, or one that had previously been stolen from a member of the public and recovered.
The 43-year-old admitted burglary, criminal damage and failing to comply with supervision requirements at Warrington Magistrates Court on Monday, August 23.
She was locked up for 19 weeks and told to pay compensation of £55 plus a £73 victim surcharge.

German design company Rainrider has come up with a unique invention that, possibly, we didn’t need.
The Rain Rider is a lightweight (1.5kg), ‘aerodynamic’, UV-resistant umbrella that protects cyclists from the elements. The umbrella costs €129.95 (£114) and the company say the device will fit almost all bikes.

There's also a demand side story to accompany your eloquently written post, in that domestic demand has dampened from the captive COVID market of a few years back, and less international demand due to tariff-led policies and anti-dumping laws. On Chinese competition, I don't think it's necessarily Western profit-seeking behaviour which has caused increased Chinese supply and competitiveness as much as higher Chinese investment leading to higher quality output, innovation, and economies of scale. I don't know about Chinese frames as I haven't bought one and haven't seen one, but for wheels I don't see any inherent quality advantage for Western brands. Indeed, innovation seems to be coming from Chinese brands along with lower prices, just like we're seeing with electric cars. So higher quality and lower prices.
They should concentrate on the road users who do most of the killing and injuring: car drivers.
I've used the "why aren't you on the motorway?" one before, except here it would be "highway" or "Interstate." The other one I like is: "Get on the sidewalk!" (pavement) "On the side what?" "On the sidewalk!" "So it's not called a side-bicycle then?" Also one I've used a couple of times: "You're not a car!" "Neither are you!"
I've used Challenge, Vittoria, Veloflex and Continental tyres. What stands out for me regarding Challenge is how robust their supple tyres are. Usually there is a tradeoff there, but Challenge somehow manages to keep both.
Well, many of them are more correctly "emit elsewhere". However as we do successfully move away from "coal, oil, and latterly gas and wood" the fraction that is actually emitted does go down. So overall, welcome. (It's complicated... the renewables business is just business like any other so we aren't keen to discuss all the resources being used / new places that get trashed. Example being how much steel (mostly still "dirty") and concrete we need for the new infra. And of course where humans can, they will, as much as they can afford, so Jevons Paradox applies).
RE: Royal Mail 4-wheeled "bikes" - hadn't they been trying to ditch the bikes for ages (like society overall)? When they did they dumped them in favour of vans plus those trolleys. Overall if this means it ends up more "micro-van" rather than "walking plus full size vans" I guess a degree of pedalling is an improvement? When Royal Mail and parking came up before someone said they can ditch their vehicles where they want (if they have to/within reason... but nobody's going to do anything about it). The real issue is all the other commercial deliverers do that anyway. Plus most of the rest of the population...

There’s a huge difference in knowing that they’re human and having the attitude that they’re a nuisance. This campaign is highlighting the fact that folk who cycle have some form of relationship and are loved by other people and by personalising this makes it more subjective. After I was clattered a couple of years back a number of work colleagues admitted to me that they had changed their behaviours/attitudes towards those who cycle and were much more patient with them. I’d rather it not have taken for me to go through what I did to effect this change But it really brought it home to them that one of cyclists are actually people with feelings and family.

and its also that type of clothing which probably suffers the most from the ability of people to dehumanise riders as an out group.
I might have been tempted to show the rider with a bike and pick different clothing choices to highlight the difference more, as the older guy could literally look like he is riding a bike in either get up, and his keep the lights on job isnt clearly defined by his work clothing,
like I presume theyll have picked an NHS worker as well for this campaign, as that is more a visible difference and likely for people to make that emotional connection with better.
but its focussed on the face and eyes, which is why you wont see any rider with the latest Oakleys in this campaign.

The female minister of transport was Barbara Castle -1965 to 1968.
Claim two was from a letter (it was a long time ago) sent to a newspaper by the mother – she refused to teach her daughter to drive ever again.
Claim one came from what was then called the CTC gazette( now Cycling UK) or cycling weekly, a long time ago – I’ve read cycling weekly for 63 years so not certain when it was.
Claim four happened to my cycling club – The Middlesex Clarion C & AC in south London about 50 years ago – I was on the club run and remember what happened very clearly.

I doubt very much the School had much say in it – this would have been a local council decision where the school was a partner at best.
My wife was Chair of Governors for a School – the head was forever getting it in the neck from both Pro and Anti car drop off parents when parking and enforcement was actually beyond their control. The school does not control the roads outside it.

That was my first thought! When I lived in Belgium for a while as a kid in the ’70s we visited Holland quite a bit and I remember seeing old-timers with foldable kites on their backs that could be opened in tailwinds – always been surprised nobody’s come up with a modern version.
