Has to be the warm warm summer with late nights for long rides
Spring for shizzle, fresh sunshine and cut grass.
I really love all of the seasons; the fact that we have different seasons is one of the most wonderful things in life whether on the bike or not.
If pushed for a favorite I'd probably say early Autum. The changing weather and light conditions challenge my thinking about when and where to ride which usually means I end up in locations and situations (and on different bikes) that I might not otherwise have found myself in.
early autumn
The spring. Coming out of the winter, with promise of sunny days to come
Winter, it's cold it's dark but the roads are quieter and I can see the car head lights coming from miles away.
Why pick just one? Any season where I'm able to get out and ride is a good season. All present unique challenges to keep things fresh and interesting.
If there had to be one, I'd say fall, mostly because of the changing scenery. There's something about a fall ride, with the changing leaves and crisp air that really lets one separate themselves from the day-to-day and just ride.
Summer. Absolute peak of summer. Clear blue skies. Upper 20s temperature. Dartmoor. 20% climb out of Widecombe-in-the-Moor. Sweat pouring off you. A drink and a Mars Bar as reward at the top. Then swing over to Hay Tor and descend at 40mph to Bovey Tracey. Thoughts of that are what keep me riding through winter.
Spring.
When there's still hope that summer will come this year.
Late sp ring in the Alps before the school holidays and the masses take to the roads.
SCHWAGGGGGGGGGRAB
Spring, cool but sunny
Autumn, definitely.
Winter - for that smug feeling when everyone else is slobbed out of the sofa watching TV.
Got to be Autumn for me: fresher days, beautiful colour of the trees, feeling smug because you have mudguards...
Early, crisp Autumn mornings with great sunrises and temperatures just cool enough to see your breath.
Autumn
Spring, when the cold & darkness is over there's new targets to go for.
Summer for me - dry, warm and bright
Winter: Nobody likes to see an out-of-shape rider looking puse and sweaty in the heat of summer!
Definitely Spring, just after the clocks go forward again. There's still a slight chill in the air, green leaves are just starting to appear.
I can only really say Autumn.
Spring for crisp air and good light
Summer is my favourite by far.
Summer, because it is to cold and snowy the rest of the year (in Norway)
Summer, as I am peaking in performance and the warm sun is out when enjoying a coffee on an outdoor terrace
Autumn every time (early autumn before the clocks change and the days are still longer). Summer can just be too hot & uncomfortable for someone who sweats for England. Spring is always colder than you expect it to be. A cracking Autumn day isn't as cold as you expect it will be but it has heavenly colours and smells. Smell is a greatly under-rated sense when riding and at this time of the year is almost as life affirming, in itself, as the joy of rolling along under your own power on a bike.
Great for foraging too - bagged a lovely fresh pheasant last week C/O the driver going the other way - thanks chap.
01st January, New Years Day - Winter - if i get out on this day then i know i'm going to have a long happy cycling year ahead
Has to be Autumn doesn't it?? Crisp clear skies punctuated by biblical rainfall and howling gales, and that satisfying feeling that only the truly committed are sharing the joy
My favourite cycling season is the summer when it's nice and hot!
Late Spring when the weather is starting to improve and everyone is full of optimism for the summer ahead. Definitely my favorite time of the cycling year
