Summer sun
Winter. Cold crisp mornings, with a touch of frost, when you can see your breath. Perfect
Summer mornings on long hills and a sunny spin home. Delicious.
Spring. You know you've got summer and autumn ahead...
Off road in the winter, on road in the summer.
Late summer/early autumn. Still warm (so no need for tons of riding clobber) but sun slightly lower in the sky and scenery/vegetation just a bit more varied.
Start of autumn. Glorious riding. & still got summer legs
Winter.
A northern wind howls down the hills, stopping you in your tracks and freezing your nose drips to your stubble. The roads, covered in ice, invisible shards of flint and oily mud threaten your premature end on every corner. Your fingers, so numb you can't pull on your brake levers, somehow still have more feeling than your toes. And your face.
20 miles from home you get a puncture. With your useless stumps at the end of your arms, it takes you half an hour to change your tube. You set off in twilight, snow dusting your helmet. Your chain snaps. You cry, and your tears become icicles. You will not get home.
Winter.
Spring, the countryside blooms, the temperature increases and the rain gets lighter
Spring: specifically the first day the leg warmers come off
Late spring - temperature is in that 'just right' phase.
The summer. Warmer, dryer and longer days.
If and when they happen, Indian summers make for almost perfect riding weather...
Like everybody I prefer the summer but realistically I’m not fussed what season it is as long as I get my weekly dose of hours on the road.
Late spring - kind of may/ early June time. Weather tends to be good, but can't cope when it gets too hot later on!
Winter obvs!
Autumn, talk about the great summer and the leaves are turning, the sky is still blue and the legs have some strength after longer rides
Late Summer for me. When I'm as fit as I'm going to be for the year and I can just really enjoy every mile and every climb.
the off season!
Spring - winter has gone, the days are getting longer and the cycling event calendar starts in earnest! Mind you, anytime is great on the bike, provided the weather gods are smiling!
