Barring misfortune on the way into Paris tomorrow, Geraint Thomas will stand on the top step of the Champs-Elysees podium tomorrow as the first Welsh winner of the Tour de France aster riding a storming individual time trial in the French Basque Country tomorrow.
The 32 year old is posed to seal Team Sky’s sixth victory in seven years, and has ridden in four of those editions in support of Chris Froome, who rode a terrific race today to get back into third overall above Primoz Roglic of LottoNL-Jumbo, clearly sufferingf the after-effects of yesterday’s stage win.
Froome was unable to make headway on second overall Tom Dumoulin of Team Sunweb, who edged him out by 1 second to take the stage win, with Thomas a further 14 seconds back in thiord place.

Well done to Thomas, he’s now Wales’ second greatest cyclist. Shame that Froome was seemingly robbed of the stage win, that computer timing showed he took it by just under two seconds and yet TD gets it by 1s, a three second swing, WTF?

There are sometimes small differences. You may have noticed them also in the split times along the route.

Apparently Froome’s time was incorrect as a police officer stood on the finish line before Froome had actually finished.
It would seem this occured more than once given the various discrepencies during the the day. What a fuck up.

EDIT: Watched it now and yet another incredible ride from Froomedog. What can I say? He looked fucked yesterday and pulls one out of the bag today, he could have got his 4th consecutive Grand Tour.

Was impressed with the Basque crowd. Come on Parisiennes, you can do it, show the Welsh dude some respect.

French TV gave “service
French TV gave “service minimum” to Froome’s extraordinary TT effort and not too much more to Thomas. The after-Tour programme concentrated on Alaphilippe and Roman Bardet – with no real questioning why he’s getting less and less capable of a T de F win. Delighted for Thomas who I honestly didn’t believe could do it. Let’s hope the podium ceremonies aren’t spoiled by stupid booing. Roglic the revelation of the Tour for me – Thomas Voeckler suggested that his relatively weak TT performance was caused by the mental stress of being so close to the podium plus fatigue from the efforts of the day before.

Chuffed to bits for both Thomas and Froome.
Thomas was a deserved winner of the tour and after his 4th Grand Tour in a row Froome was just the ultimate super domestique for him. Well done to both and all of Team Sky
