Formula 1 ace Jenson Button disqualified from triathlon - for speeding on his bike!

Former motor racing world champ went too fast on part of course where there were speed restrictions

Formula 1 star Jenson Button was disqualified from an Ironman triathlon event last weekend – because he went too fast on the bike leg.

Competing in triathlons- and getting out on his bike in the hills above his Monaco home –  is a big part of the former world champion’s fitness regime.

But as Somersetlive.co.uk reports, he was among competitors who were adjudged to have broken a speed limit imposed on a section of road during the Ironman 70.3 event in Oceanside, California.

"Well that was a pretty interesting 70.3 Ironman,” the 37-year-old McLaren driver, winner of the Formula 1 world championship in 2009, wrote.

"Swim went well then I jumped on my awesome new bike to find that I hadn't charged the battery for the gears so I was stuck in the toughest gear with 900meters of climbing.

"Iran a 1hr 23 min off the bike which I was pretty happy with, finished 3rd in age group so qualified for the world champs only to be disqualified for speeding in a go slow zone

"Ah well onto the next one."

Last year, Button filmed himself on a training ride on Mont Ventoux where he got of his bike and started running up the mountain, poking fun at fellow Monaco resident Chris Froome’s travails there during the Tour de France.

Sounds like he might have been speeding in the transition zone? Bit like speeding in the pit lane in F1.
