This afternoon, the opening weekend of the 2014/15 Revolution Series at the Lee Valley Velodrome saw the UK debut of the ‘Marymoor Crawl’ – the track racing format originating in Washington state in the Pacific north west of the United States that we flagged up here on road.cc earlier this month.
The race only comprises one lap of the track, but that’s preceded by a lot of fun and games as riders are held before a bell or gun signifies the point they can cross the start line, and put a foot on the boards, grab a handrail, or impede another cyclist and you’re out – simple, but guaranteed laughs.
Organisers FACE Partnership decided to trial the event today after seeing the video of it here on road.cc, and they’ve wasted no time in getting a video up of this afternoon’s race. We won’t tell you who won, but we hope you enjoy it.
FACE Partnership said beforehand that all being well, the race will feature in future rounds of the Revolution Series – and managing director James Pope told us tonight that despite misgivings by some people before today’s event about whether or not it could work in this context, it will.

Haha brilliant! It’s the only track race I’m interested in watching! 😀

Thanks Hugh, we know Ben Swift rides for Sky, maybe tell us the names of some of the other rides left in.
Swift should have been DQ’d
Swift should have been DQ’d anyway, was travelling backwards =))
Great! My 21 month old son
Great! My 21 month old son watched the entire thing clapping. So it MUST be good. *buys tiny velodrome for back garden from Argos*
Hugh Porter is actually being
Hugh Porter is actually being paid to commentate and can’t even announce the winner correctly. He is terrible at races, on TV and on that video unless you race for sky he has no clue who anyone is and does not even do any research. Carlton Kirby, Ant mcrossan run rings around him.

Carlton, Magnus, Dan Lloyd, Matt Stephens, all so much better.
Yeah, typically the Americans do it better.
Love this.

No sign of the lady handing out cash notes to tempt people closer to the line like the US version though?
