A group of BMX stunt riders have re-enacted some of the scenes from Martyn Ashton’s iconic Street Bike Party video – using bikes that cost a fraction of the price of the Team Sky-issue Pinarello he rode. What’s more, none of the bikes featured in the film, Old Bike Party, survived.
Two of them, a folding bike and a shopper, cost £40 each while the third cost nothing – an abandoned wonen’s mountain bike that the team hfound, which didn’t even have a saddle.
Filmed and edited by Josh Holdsworh, the film features riders from Style Bicycle, whose founder Keelan Phillips, revealed on YouTube that the locations are Abbey Park and Western Park, both in Leicester, plus a skate park in Ruddington.
And here’s Martyn Ashton’s original, which is always worth watching again.
Ashton broke his back during a stunt riding exhibition at Silverstone in September 2013 and lost the use of his legs.
He hasn’t let that stop him riding, however, and this summer took part in his first handcycle race – while friends Chris Akrigg and Danny MacAskill stepped in to help complete Road Bike Party 2.
