Car crashes into building - please post your Local news stories

Running this one up the flagpole to see who salutes...

I just don't remember this being a thing until recently, now it seems a daily occurrence.
Could it be that there are drivers not up to the job, too many cars; should houses be made to ride in single file, shops put on high viz, why are we putting newer buildings in danger like this, it's irresponsible.

https://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/18649201.car-crash-wall-iceland-s...

'A Dorset Police spokesperson said: "Dorset Police was called at 12.48pm on Thursday, August 13, to a report of a collision involving a car and a wall outside Iceland on Poole Road in Bournemouth.

"It is reported that the vehicle was also in collision with a pedestrian, but they did not require medical treatment." '

as it doesnt read like the car driver is automatically coughing up for it, despite being clearly an idiot and at fault

I think he is! The Council/ Construction company are not going to be dim enough to miss this easy winner. Big insurance claim = big rise in premiums.

more e-scooter pearl clutching over in leafy Bath.  If only cars were geo-fenced/ regulated to this degree!

Whatever her real motivations are, and there seems to be a dispute on the facts of which is the steepest hill out the 3 routes to the university, at least Cllr Wright identifies the principal source of the danger:

"Widcombe Hill is a dangerous hill for e-scooter users because of mixing at the low speed of 12.5mph with larger, faster-moving motorised vehicles, in combination with steepness, parked cars..."

If only they could accelerate out of harm!

Police upped patrols in the area following reports

My sister used to manage a clothes shop in Fowey (so the same area as this). One day there was some shoplifting but my sister knew who had done it (as they had been looking at and trying on the clothes that had been taken) and also knew that the shoplifters were going to work after leaving the shop (and so would still have the clothes). So she phoned the police, who told her that there was nothing that they could do because the police officer who covered Fowey had finished for the day.

Hopefully they've improved now or their next response will be something like "We heard that the flasher visited at noon each day, but we never saw them as we were on lunch"

There is a small canon of jokes along these line, probably now only used by children's entertainers.

The formula is-

feed line/ set-up: <news announcement of incident> (typically, a lorry has shed its load, or something has been stolen)
Punchline: "a police spokesman said" <describes police response, involving a pun on, or other reference to the set-up>

Example: lorry load of hair oil / police are combing the area.

In our little world  it might be "the Part of the Sheldon Brown site that talks about English, French and Italian bottom brackets has been hacked - cyclists don't know which way to turn"

My favourite: A lorry has shed its load of Marmite on the M4. Police are advising motorists to avoid the yeast-bound carriageway.

(Sorry, no cycling references)

Likely to divide opinion. You better not spread that one around.

The Two Ronnies featured a lot of news headlines like that:

We’ve just heard that a juggernaut of onions has shed its load all over the M1. Motorists are advised to find a hard shoulder to cry on.

West Mersea police announced tonight that they wish to interview a man wearing high heels and frilly knickers, but the Chief Constable said they must wear their normal uniforms.

A cement mixer has collided with a prison van on the Kingston bypass, motorists are told to be on the lookout for 16 hardened criminals.

We're getting reports of a loose dog being run over in a country lane by a reversing Range Rover. Yorkshire Police say they have no leads.

You use your insurer to recover the monies.
I'm guessing in that instance, it was taking so long, they stumped up the money before it has been recovered.

The driver drove past a number of road closure signs and reportedly moved a barrier before sinking his car into the freshly poured concrete.

That should be a short investigation. Surely there needs to be a point where a licence is revoked because someone is too stupid, too arrogant or too angry to be allowed to drive.

Fecking num-nuts.

So it's the road going fast, not the car being driven fast?

Good thing it wasn't a cyclist with high pressure tyres. They'd have sunk to the centre of the earth!

That's on account of the fact that a bike travelling at 8 mph emits the same amount of CO2 as a Range Rover Discovery (driverless of course).

Marlow: Clayton's Bar damaged in 'accident with skip lorry'

It says collision in the article but I'm wondering if the skip was through the large door and they ripped the doors off trying to get it out.

If it was a collision, there was #NoDriverInvolved

Audi driver leaves cars and garden wall wrecked after 'losing it' in residential street

Horrified neighbours say the driver was travelling at up to 70mph along the residential road

"The driver got up and walked away, it's horrendous, they just fly up and down."

“We’re on the phone to insurance now and they’re saying we’re going to have to pay the excess because there were no tags on the Audi, and it belonged to no-one. It’s likely that they’ll never find the person."

And weirdly, sometimes the correct agreed journalistic style sounds just wrong...

Quote:

Avon and Somerset Police confirmed they responded to a single-car collision.

Information released by Bedminster Fire Station confirmed that the driver had crashed with an electric pole, knocking down a power line.

Not sure if this was caught at the time but I was driven past the building which is still unrepaired. The wall has a car sized indentation in the front, but the side has deep cracks about 2 metres high about a metre back from the front wall. It's not until you read the story you can understand how a driver achieved such incompetence.
