Released back in 2024, Peaty’s Monarch grips have become mighty popular, and designed using the heft of Steve Peat’s 25 years in the sport, it comes as no surprise. But today, the brand has brought updated models to the market, utilising two different rubber compounds amongst other new things to make its grips more durable, grippier, and more comfortable.

Before we get onto the new stuff, there are some things that haven’t changed. Namely, those are the textures on offer. As before, these updated grips come in both Knurl and Mushroom models, with the former aiming to achieve a racy feel, and the latter built for comfort.

What has changed with the Pro grips is that Peaty’s has equipped them with a ‘dual material construction’. The upper half, where your palm sits, and the thumb pad benefit from a soft 15a durometer rubber in a bid to bring improved comfort and traction, while the lower half is built of a 30a Duralite compound, which we’re told takes the form of a fine foam. The brand claims that this Duralite material is twice as durable as rubber but as it’s added to the finger portion of the grips, it’s said to deliver a “more positive feel when pulling the grips”. Duralite then wraps around the bar end to increase durability in a very damage-prone area.

As before, the Monarch Pro grips use a core that’s constructed of 80% recycled ocean plastics, showing that the brand still loves to keep turtles safe, but for these models, the core gets a cutout. This has allowed the brand to add more of the soft 15a rubber under the rider’s palm to improve vibration damping and overall comfort.

With two thicknesses to pick from, one that tapers from 30 to 32mm in diameter and 32 to 34mm, Peaty’s has brought six new and more muted colours to the range, each of which get Chris King colour-matched lock rings.

While there are some cool things going on with Peaty’s new grips, the regular Monarch grips aren’t going anywhere. Instead, the Monarch Pro options will be available as a slightly posher option that’ll set you back £29.99.

We’ve got a pair fresh in for testing, so keep an eye out for a review coming soon.
