Now, though, it’s the turn of the Straggler to see modernisation with the big new features being an increase in the number of frame sizes available and a revamped frame geometry to better reflect modern gravel riding. And, of course, a bizarre launch video which we’ve linked below…
Surly Straggler 2025
The Straggler is the brand’s self-proclaimed ‘do-it-all’ gravel bike. A term we hear plenty of in the gravel sphere. And to Surly, that means an altered geometry for better off-road capabilities, and plenty of mounting points.
New for the 2025 model is the addition of three extra sizes, which means there are now eight sizes to choose from. This improves overall fit for riders and helps to reduce toe overlap some find with a small range of fitments. There is also more standover clearance on small sizes for those with shorter legs.

The geometry has also been revised, with a more sloped top tube (which helps with the standover clearance), a lower bottom bracket for better stability, and a lower seat tube which allows for longer seat post insertion – and for those that run dropper posts, more travel.
Surly has also included 12x100mm front and 12x142mm rear thru-axles, wider bars and flat mount brakes as standard with the new Straggler. It also offers compatibility with up to 700c x 50mm tyres.

The frame itself is manufactured using 4230 steel ‘Natch’ tubing, with a 44mm head tube diameter, which means it fits everything from a steel, carbon or even suspension gravel fork.
The brand says the Straggler is aimed at “multi-terrain wanderings.” Tim Simundza, brand and marketing manager of Surly, said, “The new Straggler is more comfortable, more modern, and more capable for however humanoids want to ride it.”
In the UK, Surly bikes are distributed by Ison, and so far we have confirmation of framesets in either subtropic algae or shaggy carpet colourways for £899. Details of full builds are still to be confirmed.
