Today, suspension giant Fox has expanded its rear shock range with the addition of the Float and Float SL. The former is designed to balance lightweight with trail capability and the latter is a race-ready cross-country focussed unit. Here’s everything you need to know.

The Float is a trail-orientated shock in the new line-up that’s designed to meet the demands of any weight-conscious trail riders out there. This shock offers a firm pedaling platform while providing a grippy yet confidence-inspiring character found on the brand’s existing Float X shocks.
Speaking of the Float X, the Float shares the damper tech but comes with a 150g weight saving in a smaller build, saving frame space. It features eyelet mounts, with sizes of 170, 190, 210 and 230mm, and Trunnion mounts in 145, 165, 185 and 205mm.
The Float SL is Fox’s smallest and lightest shock in the range, says the brand. Much like the Float, the Float SL is designed to offer excellent pedaling efficiency and performance for cross-country riding. It features a brand-new Internal Floating Piston and valving, which is said to deliver improved traction, consistent damping, and a wider range of adjustability. It’s said that this one, in its 170×35 guise will weigh 235g.
Like the Float, the Float SL gets both eyelet and Trunnion mount options with sizes ranging from 170 to 210mm.
As for prices, the Float can be picked up from $350 to $500, and the Float SL starts at the same price but goes up to $519.
