If you are looking for a different drivetrain option that doesn’t start with Shimano or SRAM for a gravel or cross-country bike, then e*thirteen may have just the thing for you. Their new lightweight XCX cassette, chainring and crank range gives you plenty of options and the price isn’t steep either.

Usually in the market of more downhill and gravity orientated gear, e*thirteen are better known for their chain guides and TRS cassettes. Today, they have launched a new line of drivetrain options aimed at gravel bikes and cross-country mountain bikes. The new gear is called XCX, it’s 1x only and includes cranks, chainrings and wide range cassettes.

e*thirteen XCXr cranks

The XCXr (r for Race) is claimed to be the lightest production cranks you can buy right now with the XCXr gravel cranks with a 38t chainring coming in at 398g and the XCXr MTB cranks with a 32T chainring weighing 392g.

e*thirteen XCX chainrings

Called XCX Ultralight, the new chainrings come in sizes from 30T to 42T for mountain bikes. All compatible with 1x gravel bikes for boost MTB drivetrains. Presumably, there are larger options for gravel riders too as it is listed on the spec sheet above but we don’t have any information on that yet. e*thirteen say a 32T chainring weighs 54g and will cost between $64.95-74.95 USD.

e*thirteen XCX cassettes

e*thirteen already produce 11 speed cassettes that have a 9-46t range, the new XCX range continues this with new cassettes in these sizes: 9-34 and 9-42. The cassettes use a mix of 10 steel cogs and a large outer aluminium cog to balance wear and weight. The smaller of the two cassettes weighs 315g and is priced at £229 whilst the larger is 330g and will cost £249.

The new 12 speed MTB cassette will be available from 1st May in the UK whilst we don’t have information on the XCX kit, it looks like it’ll be available in the US in June/July though. We’ll aim to get some in for review, in the meantime it will be interesting to see if this new line will be put to good use specced on some more wallet-friendly gravel bikes, helping to bring a 1x drivetrain to more people.
