CTC urges cyclists to write to MPs about Safety in Numbers campaign

Early Day Motion to support CTC's campaign...

The CTC wants cyclists to write to their MP asking them to sign an Early Day Motion supporting the cycling organisation's Safety in Numbers campaign.

The campaign presents strong evidence that cycling gets safer the more cyclists there are.

Following the recent Parliamentary launch of the report, the Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Cycling Group, Gwyn Prosser MP, has tabled Early Day Motion 1431(EDM), arguing that cyclists benefit from safety in numbers.

It also welcomes the target set in A Safer Way, the Government's draft Road Safety Strategy, of halving the risks of cycling within ten years.

The EDM says the best way to halve the risk of cycling is to tackle fears that deter people from cycling: traffic speeds, bad driving, hostile roads and junctions, and lorries. It also calls for more cycle training to be made available to people of all ages.

If you would like to support the CTC in their campaign, you can write to your MP and ask him or her to sign Early Day Motion 1431, supporting CTC's Safety in Numbers campaign. A template letter is available on the CTC's website and more than 70 MPs have already signed.
