11 Speed Chainset Compatibility With 10 Speed Setup

Hi just want to ask for some advice, can  a 11 speed chainset work with a 10 speed setup (mine been Sram force setup 2012)

However I am currently using a Utegrea 11-28 cassette and 10 speed chain they both work fine with Sram setup.

I am having to replace my FSA SLK CARBON LIGHT CHAINSET(53T-39T) , main reason it has  worn out the chain rings on the big ring and the BB is on its way out ,and getting these alone is very expensive!!

So it was more cost effective to purchase a Shimano 5800 11 speed chainset and 2 Shimano Dura Ace Bottom Brackets for a good price from Ribble Cycles.

I have Herd that the 10 speed setup will work fine with the 11 speed chainset. I am also going to replace the chain With XL KMC chain 10 speed.

The 5800 Chainset is a 52T-36T that I have Purcased. Any help and advice ,or if someone has used a 11 speed chainset on 10 speed setup I would be grateful for any information including set up. Thanks

I run new Tiagra 10spd with a 105 11spd chainset as I wanted a double. No issues whatsoever and I set it up no different to any other chainset.

Most chainsets don't really care how many cogs you run at the back. Don't worry about chainset compatibility.

I'm told Campagnolo seems to be exception, but that's irrelevant to your case.

Hi Steve thanks for your kind response, sending some pictures of the chain stretch, 1st picture on the 0.75%  chain marker tool just about fits inside the chain.

2nd pic its  sits on top on of the chain the 1.00% mark.

Should work. My winter bike is all 11 speed 5800 105 but with the 10 speed 5700 crankset. Bugger all difference as far as I can tell.

Should all work fine.

Might want to check chain stretch. old chains can jump a fair bit on new chain rings
