Enigma Bicycle Works, a highly regarded steel and titanium frame specialist based in Sussex, has launched the Ezona, which at £799 is the most affordable steel frame it has ever offered. A complete bike with Shimano 105 parts will cost £1,499.
The new Ezona is made from Columbus Zona double butted steel tubes with a Columbus Life seat tube to provide a bit of extra stiffness. It uses the same geometry as Enigma's long-running Etape model. Features include mudguard mounts, an integrated headset, and external cable routing. It'll take 25mm tyres with mudguards fitted.
This new model is aimed at those cyclists wanting a steel frame for winter training, touring or commuting (or all three) but don't have the budget for one of Enigma's pricier steel offerings. The Ezona looks like an ideal winter training bike, for those long training rides in horrible conditions and on horrible roads in the depth of the winter. Steel is an ideal choice because it's both very comfortable and durable.
Frame weight is a claimed 1,550g for a size 56cm. There are three colours to choose from, Lotus Racing, VW Ice Metallic and Jaguar Red.
The frame will cost £799, and the complete bike will be £1,499. The specification of the complete bike includes an Enigma Etape carbon fibre fork, Shimano 105 groupset, Mavic Aksium wheels and Continental Ultra Gator Skin 25mm tyres. Finishing kit is Enigma's own handlebar, stem and seat post, with a Selle Italia saddle and Deda aluminium 27.2mm seat post.

I’m not sure how they can build a 56cm frame that weighs 1550g from double butted Columbus Zona.
Condor’s Fratello is triple butted Columbus Spirit and 1900g for a 55cm frame.
Condor claims for its Columbus XCr Acciaio stainless is 1450g for a 55cm frame.
XCr is >200KSI, Spirit is 177-205 KSI whilst Zona is 134-149 KSI so wouldn’t the steel have to be thicker and heavier for the same strength?
Enigma’s estimated weight seems too light?
Sounds like a good deal to me. I don't know how it'll ride, but it's certainly cooler than an Equilibrium.
^^^ Not true. All steel-alloy is of the same stiffness for a given diameter/wall thickness. The higher the tensile strength the thinner you can drawn the tube without compromising overall strength.
Life is thinner, but stiffer, hence the cost increase. Zona perfectly up to the job for a decent all round bike. If you compare this to say Condor its a good price.
Dang it that's exactly what I'm looking for.
You would imagine that Life would be less stiff as it typically has thinner wall sections than Zona as it is a stronger alloy.
The frames look nice though.
Jaguar red? Thought that'd be green. Or is the reviewer colour blind?

Just a quick one, i'm guessing that was that meant to be 'seat tube' (Why would you want extra stiffness in the seat post ? It's not the '70s anymore), especially as it talks about the Deda aluminium 27.2mm seat post at the end there
