At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

The Get In Gear kids' cycle jersey is a nicely-made jersey for your offspring that's technical enough to make the grade for hard riding, but is fine for pottering about too.

In essence it's a fairly standard adult jersey, shrunk down. So you get a quarter zip at the front (with a garage at the top to stop it chafing), three pockets at the back and a silicone gripper at the hem to keep it in place. The material is a mid-weight polyester that's nice and airy for a warm day. Design-wise, the jersey uses bold motifs and a Flandrian pallette, and the look was a hit with our junior testers.

The Get In Gear jersey is available in three sizes: Age 7/8 (128-136cm), Age 9/10 (142-148cm) and Age 11/12 (149-155cm). They're fairly generous, cut-wise: Joel, who's modelling, is wearing the 9/10 size and he's 142cm tall, so there's a bit of space to grow into. He really likes the jersey and has worn it a lot both on and off the bike.

It's a nice jersey, this: it's not doing anything particularly clever but it's well cut and the young people like the design. A bit of reflective to help with visibility would be a nice addition, but overall you're getting a good bit of kit with a bit of space for growing.

What's more, you get a free organic cotton T-shirt (choose green or navy) with your jersey, worth £12.99.

Tell us what the product is for, and who it's aimed at. What do the manufacturers say about it? How does that compare to your own feelings about it?

Get In Gear says: "This is Get In Gear's signature jersey. The design epitomises our style: it is bold and totally original with colours which may remind roadie die-hards of the classic Flandrian riders of the past. This striking jersey is equally at home on the shoulders of a roadie or a mountain biker. "This short sleeved jersey has a quarter zip and all the quality features needed for comfort and style. A long sleeved version is also available. "The fabric is breathable, light weight and manages moisture effectively. The quarter length zip is covered at the top to avoid neck irritation, cuffs are elasticated, the back hem is finished with a 1 cm silicone gripper and the ergonomic back pocket is reinforced and curved. "The children's sizes are on the large side with Age 7/8 being suitable for 128-136cm, Age 9/10 for 142-148cm and Age 11/12 149-155cm tall. This jersey is also available in Adult Small, Medium & Large."
