such a sad story, I've been haunted by this for 2 days now. how anyone could do this and leave the poor guy to suffer in the middle of nowhere is beyond comprehension. to help catch the offender, i'm hoping the has been covered by local press more than the nationals, who just seem obsessed by the world cup bite today.
My heart goes out to the cyclists friends and family. For what it's worth, I'm thinking of you.
Avoid A roads
Its a sad reflection of the society in which we live... most of us don't do things because of what it means if we get caught, not any particular inner goodness.
Hit and runs demonstrate this perfectly. you don't do things because of what happens if you get caught, but then it happens anyway... you hit someone.
What now? are you honest and give yourself up and effectively surrender your own life at the same time as the life you have just taken, or simply drive away... safe in the knowledge that you've got away with it
It disgusts me, but I can understand the decision.
Sad news, RIP.
The A49 is a terrible road, one to avoid.
How anyone can hit another person and not stop is unbelievable
It's an awful stretch of road that we've learned to avoid.
Very sad.
That's a horrid road and it makes me cringe every time I see people recommending it as a LEJOG route. It desperately needs some cycling improvements, even if just to help people avoid it - a signalised crossing at All Stretton, a roadside path between Craven Arms and Affcot, another between Marshbrook and Little Stretton.
RIP. Thoughts to the family at this time.
So sad, as balmybaldwin said it's likely he was hit the night before and could well be alive today, had the cowardly driver stopped or even called the emergency services.
My thoughts are with the family.
RIP
RIP. I have been hit and run in very similar circumstances to this but fortunately survived. Never come to terms with it though. Shock that people can drive off and leave some one for dead. Either drunk, disqualified, uninsured or stolen. Scum. My hit and run driver was never caught. Well the plod didn't exactly do a lot to try to catch them.
RIP.
Hit and runs really wind me up. Very hard to not realise you have hit someone and a cowardly decision to drive off could be condemning someone to death. If I do get tetchy about obnoxious driving it is because it is one step away from the mentality of a hit and runners.
My thoughts are with the deceased and his loved ones.
RIP chap.
In my experience far too many people drive too fast on that stretch of the A49, even more so than other roads.
Bloody hell, poor farmer coming across that. Im guessing at that time in the morning the poor guy had been lying in the verge all night. V. Sad rip
