I wonder what the sentence was?

That could easily have been me- I wonder what the Sainsbury’s driver would have said as he zoomed off without looking ‘thought it was just a dog/ cyclist/ schoolchild’?(these are frequently seen on this narrow pavement)

    https://upride.cc/incident/yn67mvj_sainsburys44tonner_closepass/

What I do know is that the police would have been immediately looking for excuses for the driver- the helmet dodge would have been tricky, but they could have condemned it as not being ‘MIPS’ or whatever, or noted that I wasn’t wearing Hi-Viz at 8:30 BST on 17th June, or decided that I’d brought it on myself by failing to provide protection for myself in the shape of a 2 tonne panzer. We have recently seen them deploying the helmet/ Hi-Viz dodges when the doctor charged out from a junction in front of yet another ‘our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the’ deceased cyclist, and they would have been overjoyed at the effect of this ‘sudden onset epilepsy’ claim. Needless to say, they did not respond in any way to the video evidence of this Sainsbury’s driver offence.

    This softly-softly love

This softly-softly love-bombing would have no effect on the real ultra-selfish villains who park on the pavement, park on double yellows, and who have not paid VED for 6 years 7 months- in fact, it would ease things for them if the slightly less anti-social were discouraged from entering the competition for pavement parking places. I have demonstrated much too often on here the continuing immunity to the law granted by Lancashire Constabulary to the driver of WU59 UMH- here on Garstang High Street, but not in his usual spot close to Garstang Police Station

    Having an epileptic seizure

Having an epileptic seizure is not something somebody can simply claim as an excuse…

Oh yes they can! Not that I’m saying she did, because we don’t have the information, but you can just claim to have had a first fit, especially if there are no reliable witnesses. The ‘patient’ then goes through the usual EEG and MR brain imaging. Of course it could turn out that there is a convincing ‘focus’ on EEG or a convincing ‘lesion’ on MR and that would be the end of any dispute about it being a tragic unforeseeable accident, but it could also be that there’s just a load of waffle in the reports, such as ‘non-specific delta waves in the temporal region’ or ‘focal brain abormalities of unknown significance’ which many of us would display if we went off for a scan. The doctors are not in the business of saying she didn’t have a seizure, because they weren’t there and it can’t be excluded after the event, and I suspect ‘confidentiality’ may be enlisted to limit the details given at the inquest. It could all just go through ‘on the nod’ because proving she didn’t have a fit would be impossible. If there’s a lot of deployment of ‘confidentiality’, many of us would be suspicious

    POLICE INVESTIGATING

    POLICE INVESTIGATING

I’ve just realised that I should have been amazed at this proposition, where lawbreaking motorists are concerned. They certainly don’t bother with any of that nonsense in Lancashire! As soon as I type ‘W’ into the DVSA website, it knows what to do and brings up WU59 UMH (no VED for 6 1/2 years) and WT16 ATX- driving around for 4 months with a failed MOT for numerous serious defects, or parked outside the pub 50 yards from the police station as it is here. Police investigation or action:nil

A Reform spokesman said the comments were not “endorsements” but “written with an eye to inconvenient perspectives and truths”, while his remarks about women were “tongue in cheek”

That’s what people like the haggard Telegraph fashion journo always say, after they have declared that they would like to kill all cyclists. Hilarious wit, isn’t it?

    Several interesting links

Several interesting links here. I began with 9-speed when it came out as Ultegra- later, I could see all the chaos developing over 10+ speeds and resolved to stay out of it because 9 speed is really good and cheap. However, there’s a lot of 12 speed about, so I may join one-day. I’m pretty sure I will never have a 13+ speed

It’s a disgrace! Having to drive around in a vehicle FG07 OHF with MOT failed a month ago for multiple serious safety defects, and towing a trailer with a different and false plate W709 ANW. However, on the brighter side, this is Lancashire where the police and PCC don’t care about road safety or driving offences

I should point out that the larger fitting bands for the Carradice QR system are perfect for the outsize seating tubes of my Birdy and Halfords Intercity folders (interchangeable seat tubes for those two bikes). I am also thankful that Carradice hasn’t yet begun advertising their bags as suitable for carrying ‘burritos’ (whatever they are) and baguettes
