And, thank goodness, Carradice have finally produced a big saddlebag not made of crappy cotton duck, leather etc., and which use Cordura/ modern snap buckles etc.

Get with it! I’ve been using Aldi rear lights for 8 years now- they’re all Micro-USB charging (no doubt they’ll move to USB-C some time) and have never failed. They come as a pair with an equally excellent front for about £10-15. Just buy two if you think you might forget to charge or if you want insurance for a long ride in the dark

    BTP should be able to

BTP should be able to identify the thief

I foresee BTP following the example of the terrestrial police and resorting to the GDPR dodge: we can’t tell you whether we hold that information as it could lead to the identification of a person who could then suffer a telling-off.

I’ve only ever travelled with my bike on trains where you can sit beside the bike

I must put in a commendation for Merseyrail here- excellent service from Southport down through Liverpool to Chester. I have travelled with a trailer both ways. Lots of places for bikes, although it can be hard work on the lifts. It’s also easy going up the escalators, although I haven’t yet braved a downwards trip.

Good to see the person in

Good to see the person in yellow apologising to the driver for having caused this

No, he’s Praising the Lord for saving him from being killed! Fire and Rescue turned up a couple of hours later to knock down the teetering walls, and the council has done a good job of shoring up the remainder. This could all have been much worse- there’s a lot of pedestrian traffic coming and going to the river off left, and vehicle traffic parking.

    Another day, another Sudden

Another day, another Sudden Unexplained Acceleration Incident about 2:30 this afternoon- the difference is that I saw this one happening. Noisy hard acceleration across the car park, straight into the Garstang Gents- which will likely collapse when they pull the automatic hybrid electric CRV out. Driver (that’s him in light blue) and wife stepped out, both relatively unharmed, with him saying “I can’t understand why it wouldn’t slow down”. I can. I only had enough time to register ‘that’s a bit much even for the average psycho BMW or Audi driver’ before he totalled both the 1 year old car and the toilets- that’s £40,000 down the drain. If anyone had been in the way he’d have killed them- not even anyone in the toilets. Both airbags deployed- impressively effective.

You have to feel sorry for

You have to feel sorry for this poor driver

Only to a degree! He shoud have had the sense to come to Lancashire where all this petty bureaucracy of number plates, VED, MOT etc. has long since been abandoned

    Pothole narrow enough to be

Pothole narrow enough to be spanned by a car tyre, therefore not worthy of repair, road is safe to use

Exactly right. But they didn’t want to say that when someone had died, even though only a cyclist, so they made up the story about the road spontaneously closing up between the complaint and the death.

    Near Garstang, at Winmarleigh

Near Garstang, at Winmarleigh, an 80-odd year old club cyclist was killed when his front wheel went down a deep narrow pothole. It was reported several times on here. The council had inspected the road after these potholes had been reported previously- clearly the reporter just went around for a drive in the country and no action was taken. He claimed in court that the pothole must have ‘closed up’ by the time he inspected it and later widened again, because it was deep before and after his inspection. You just have to lie confidently in court, and you can get away with anything where cyclist injuries and deaths are concerned!

    You’d think the residents

You’d think the residents would be keen to retain the stump as protection against the ‘Sudden Unexplained Car in the Front Room’ incident shown on the ‘Drivers in Your House’ topic- if a Honda driver can do that, just imagine how far through the house a BMW or Audi could get!

Perhaps a complaint to the PCC is in order

Waste of time. When police forces descend to this level of crap-ness, it’s because of an inactve and compliant ‘don’t rock the boat’ PCC. The Lancashire PCC, Snowden, simply dismisses all complaints with ‘I can’t interfere with operational decisions of the police’
