A new catch-all Tea Shop thread for those miscellaneous new stories that don’t quite fit with parking, crashing into buildings or trapped/prisoners in their homes.

Elderly man killed pensioner after ignoring doctors’ warning to stop driving
A man who was told by doctors to stop driving nine years ago because of his poor eyesight knocked down and killed a pensioner.…
Preston Crown Court heard yesterday [the man] was only able to read a car number plate at a distance of 2.5 metres – the legal requirement is 20 metres.
But he ignored doctors and continued to drive.
The court was also told [the man] was driving at 48mph in a 30mph zone at the time of the crash.
…
He admitted causing death by dangerous driving yesterday and was jailed for 32 months.
Remind me – why can’t the GP or optometrist report someone to the DVLA?

I dunno, maybe she could cycle – I’m guessing she is fit enough. And it would be the quickest way !
I hope the judge/magistrate told her to jog on.

Any offences caused on that day should result in fines etc.
As you won’t know when this is going to happen, it may result in better driving…. or people fiddling the boxes….

I’ll not comment on the possibility that this could be the police targetting her again because she got them in trouble. I doubt the police would be that childish…
Having pleaded guilty to three charges of failing to tell police the identity of a driver, Williams told the court she was not driving the Tesla at the time of the alleged offences.I have never driven a Tesla, but doesn’t it use your phone to unlock and start the car? I would be very surprised if the car doesn’t keep a record of the phone that was used in it. Knowing the way cars like this are going, it probably also keeps driver metrics, like seat positioning. The police ask for access to phones now – how long before they ask for access to car metrics?
Going Orwellian – how long before cars have to have a “black box” fitted that uploads detected illegal driving directly to the police…
