I have a question. If the offence was committed in Blantyre (South of Glasgow), why is the hearing in Inverness, some 170 miles away? Is this to make it more convenient for the accused to, (or more likely that he will) attend?

From the previous story – https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cdjlnvpex1ko

He was convicted at the High Court in Glasgow and remanded in custody pending sentencing. So he may have been in prison in Inverness at the time of the sentencing hearing.

There’s a site near me (Telegraph Woods), next to Hampshire’s cricket ground. I don’t think there are any remains of the telegraph system there though.

I can see one slight issue with your tour – all these sites are presumably at the tops of hills!

    Just out of interest, when

Just out of interest, when did proceedings start? For a Magistrates’ Court there’s a 6 month time limit, your initial post was back in October and in that you described the incident as happening a while ago.

I hope you’ve got professional legal representation, who should be all over things like this.

    LTNs are expensive because

LTNs are expensive because drivers can’t be relied upon to obey the law. If all (or even the vast majority of) drivers obeyed the law, all you would need for an LTN would be a few No Entry / No Motor Vehicle signs.

About time blame was correctly apportioned.

    I’ve got the previous version

I’ve got the previous version of this. It doesn’t have the rolltop closure and the interior is red (grey exterior). The side with the rucksack straps has a velco pocket with a cover in it, never bothered with it as I didn’t have any problems with the straps flapping about.

Compared to the alternatives, I like the way the bag splits the weight more evenly instead of having it all on one side.

Surely someone should decide what colour a cycle lane should be and stick to it.

I thought it would be in LTN 1/20. But section 6.7 Coloured Surfacing just says this about the choice of colour:

The choice of colour is a matter for the local
highway authority but, in the interests of consistency and
simplifying maintenance, a single colour should be used
for cycle infrastructure within a highway authority’s area.
Green and red surfaces are most commonly used.

There’s a game you can play at the moment – ask a meaning. Make up some silly phrase and see what you get. You can take a tyre to water but you can’t get it filled with sealant meaning Then wait for the ai to give you a pseudo meaning.

“No pigeons without headphones” is a common online meme, often used in contexts where a user is trying to avoid a specific type of content or conversation. It’s a playful way of saying “I don’t want to deal with/engage in X,” with the “pigeons” representing something undesirable and the “headphones” representing a way to block it out or ignore it.

Also, watch out for carelessly discarded lightbulbs.

I’m no gastropod, but I don’t think you’re supposed to serve squirrel deep-fried with the skin still on. Mary Berry must be turning in her grave.

There are some details of the system used here and here. Looks very impressive (when it works).

Sadly the image accompanying the article is “A generic photo of a swan” and not the actual bird in question.

Tempted to get him a sweary birthday cake like in The Thick Of It.

FWIW, I thought the mug was funny. I’ve got 2 brothers and we all take the piss out of each other a lot.
