I just don’t remember this being a thing until recently, now it seems a daily occurrence.
Could it be that there are drivers not up to the job, too many cars; should houses be made to ride in single file, shops put on high viz, why are we putting newer buildings in danger like this, it’s irresponsible.

If only he’d been able to

If only he’d been able to keep cycling – in a safer environment.  True – he might have come off his bike and that might be enough.  But the possibility he’d kill someone else is much less.  Even better if there was provision for cycling (side-by-side) with a friend.

Elderly man surrenders

Elderly man surrenders licence after New Forest water plunge

On the evening of Wednesday, February 2, a 70-year-old Southampton man decided to go for a drive around the New Forest.

After driving for several hours, he tried to complete a turn in the road. However, he then accidentally reversed down a boat launch where he plunged into nearby water.

The driver was later diagnosed with vascular dementia, which presents as episodes of confusion

“With the support of this driver and his family we wanted to highlight this incident to show the real life implications of growing older and driving. He surrendered his driving licence with dignity.”

EDIT: Our advice is: don’t wait until you have a near miss, or worse, an accident to convince you to review your driving ability or to stop driving.

That block to the left of the

That block to the left of the car sits across one of the other wall breaches, and there’s yet another crunch on the other side of the road from where I reckon this latest is. The bridge is one way, with 2 lanes, but two streams of traffic in effect merge before coming onto the bridge.  

If drivers can’t play nicely, or if the layout is confusing drivers, isn’t it time to ban cars?

Mine revs quite fiercely if I

Mine revs quite fiercely if I put down the accelerator too hard, it doesn’t immediately accelerate and this sound is plenty to get me to ease off.  That’s in C comfort mode, rather than S sporty mode, which I don’t use.  

It’s so bad I’m embarrassed by it when passing my fellow cyclists.

Again, the “size” factor is less important for me, but…

Automatically down to a never-awarded maximum of 9 1/3 because guilty plea before the off of course.  Sounds like this occured during some other badness, doing 80 in built-up zones, through red lights, hit not just one but two, drove off with someone attached to car, tried to shake her off.  Going on the lam after that would seem sensible rather than an additional offense.

What does it take, being in an illegally souped-up Russian armoured vehicle, running over pregnant deputy-inspectors and corgis at a jubilee parade?  It does seem that the much vaunted whataboutery of “if I broke any law in a motor vehicle I’d have the book thrown at me, unlike cyclists” is only true if the book is a copy of the Beano.

A building appears to be about the only thing that he didn’t crash into.

He was given a four year sentence because after running a red light, injuring two pedestrians (one being carried down the road on the bonnet), crashing into a taxi (injuring three occupants, including one being stuck in the vehicle for two hours), causing a high speed police chase and trying to then escape on foot……

And so when that happens in an auto, alot of inexperienced drivers and older ones too, panic, forget they are in an auto, theres no clutch to stamp on to disengage the engine, and in mistakenly attempting to hit the brake, because its often bigger in autos and the positionining can be subtly different than manuals, end up hitting the accelerator even harder. Most will swear blind after the crash the car just accelerated by itself out of control.
