    Good description above power
Good description above power is power it can’t be changed due to coffee or a bad nights sleep as heart rate can be its a true description of your effort. Another big part of riding with power is understanding what the numbers are telling you and understanding zones. You need to do regular ftp tests which are 20 minutes of hell. I started training with power over the winter and my on road speed and endurance has really come on. Great device if you want to improve and are time limited. If your happy with your level then I wouldn’t recommend one but if you want to prove its the best £ you can spend.

Thanks for that when I saw your image I figured it out. Was going the wrong way :”( spent about 2 hours stripping and cleaning bits off the bike thought I might have to replace my bb30 but it’s still going strong after 5000 miles and no maintanance. I’ve bought a quarq crank so looking forward to giving that ago tomorrow.

    Sorry didn’t read your blog
Sorry didn’t read your blog post felt it was a bit clickbait and your original post was a little strong hence the question. I did look at the numbers and the rather good Google map the newspaper put together i use a lot of the roads covered. Personally some of the sites (top ones) feel more to do with revenue but others are definitely areas where speeds should be controlled.

Speeding will always be a contentious subject the simple fact is if you want people to slow down roads need to be redesigned or technology introduced. Until recently the only real option to limit speeds was via the policeman or a speed camera, with advances and the reduction in prices it could now be done in vehicle.
I’m torn on this one because I love cars i have 2 personal cars and have always worked in the car industry but on the other hand I love bikes (I have 3 of those). Speeding in built up areas to me personally is not acceptable but I also feel that nudging over the limit in appropriate locations is acceptable within my own personal limit and at my own risk.
I ride my bike for the feeling of freedom it gives me I’m not sure how I’d feel if when I went above 30mph going down hill the brakes were jammed on. I feel the same about my cars.

This argument can never be won by either side the only thing we can all agree on is you should be considerate to other road users and pedestrians.

    Replace your wheels if you
Replace your wheels if you feel like it the ultegras are good but I wouldn’t spent any more than that. I run fulcrum 5’s on my Z4 they have done over 4000 miles and still run true I have replaced all the bearings due to riding in crappy weather. On that note even if a Hub is said to be none serviceable all the bearings are replaceable pretty easily. I think the set I bought were £6. It’s always worth having two sets of wheels though. Wheels can make a massive difference to the comfort of your bike and basically make you go quicker.

    iPhone for short rides is
iPhone for short rides is probably passable and in many ways better garmin Nav can be clunky. For long rides I,d choose Garmin all the way you don’t want to be 50 miles from home have a major bike problem and find you have a flat battery.
If you want to add sensors to your bike you really need Garmin because of ant+ you can get Bluetooth Low Energy ones but the choice is much less.
I’ve got to be honest I don’t think either is the ideal just works solution but Garmin would edge it for me.

    paint on corners like that
paint on corners like that will overspray into the hole and probably hasn’t adhered 100% the furrule has moved slightly at taken the paint. I wouldn’t worry to much it’s small and can be touched up its going to pick up scratches and rubs in short order if not you need to ride it more 😀

I thought the point of strava was to motivate you. Nothing worse than seeing someone kicking your arse who you should be beating. If you can’t take the heat unfollow 😀

    Thanks for the comments. I
Thanks for the comments. I was looking last night for some roads to do some repeats on I think I knew what people were going to say but always worth getting some comments to show your not alone. Although I agree with the comment about bike setup I suffer on both my bikes from the same fear. The bike I used was my sportive bike which I just rebuilt so I need to check it over for anything slightly loose and check the saddle height etc. On this specific event I might be able to blame the bike but in general I don’t like the feeling of the bike moving around so much.
I’ve got week booked in the canaries cycling so I need to work on this before I go or I might run out of brake pads on some of the descents!

    Controversial subject really
Controversial subject really you will find people who love one wheel set and others who hate them.

So to stick my opinion in my bike came with RS20 and were nothing but trouble. broken spokes, never ran true, and then eventually a spoke took out the rim.

Bought some Fulcrum 5’s for £160 from memory. Ran true from the day i bought them had about 3000 miles on them but have had to replace the bearings in the free hub and front wheel due to water ingress. From people i know who run fulcrum they all seem to run pretty good. I didn’t mind the bearing changes because they always got me home.

Waits for someone to say something completely different 🙂

Good points I will check my cadence i think from memory i was above average probably 95ish. On the road i average 89rpm every ride pretty consistently but on the trainer in the big ring i struggle to maintain that. Not 100% sure why i’m probably trying to push too big a gear i will see what i ride in at the weekend and then on the trainer.
Having more numbers to look at can be a little obsessive!

    I don’t know the hub
I don’t know the hub specifically but I’ve just rebuilt by fulcrum freehub. The freehub span freely but would grind occasionally while riding to the point you could feel it through the frame. I checked the manufacturers website and you need to replace the entire thing but in reality it’s easy enough to chance the cartridge bearings. I’d recommend checking the manufacturers website and have a look in their service section.

If it is cartridge bearings knock them out with a screwdriver or punch (check for circlips) on the seal you’ll see some numbers go on eBay and order some. Put in them back in is just as easy knock them in using a socket just smaller than the outside Diameter of the bearing or make yourself a small bearing press out of some threaded bar and some appropriately sized washers and nuts (I did this it’s safer).

When I got it all apart the inner race had crumbled and was locking.

    Try one! If your worried
Try one! If your worried about if you fit the bike because of age/fitness that’s the only way of telling or by comparing any of your current bike geometry to your new purchase. Adding spacers and flipping bars is a solution but it will potentially affect the handling of the bike. sitting you upright shifts your weight reward which can get interesting on descents I know this from experience

I might have to go down south
I might have to go down south by the sounds of it then. we have family living in Epsom my brother-in-law rides box hill at least once a week so a little stop to look at bikes wouldn’t be a hard sell. I’ve looked at bike swanky before. De Rosa make a lovely looking bike I saw them at the Birmingham cycle show shame they don’t have more shop based retailers. Sorry to hijack the thread.

I’d like to ask the same
I’d like to ask the same question.

I’ve looked for stockist in the midlands a couple of times and the closest is about 60 miles away if anyone knows of a stockist in the Warwick/Coventry area or up to 30 mile radius i’d be interested as well. Nice that some of the big online retailers stock but i want to try one for size.
