    There clearly needs to be
There clearly needs to be some deformation of the tyre but don’t keep winding it on. Just think, when you sit on the bike normally there will be some deformation – try and aim for a similar deformation?

I think I’ve managed to melt/deform the tyre I’ve got on the turbo bike at the moment but its currently still fine, if a little wobbly. I’ve never used a dedicated turbo tyre.

I used to use an Elite Volare trainer and even on highest resistance it needed a high cadence to make my legs hurt.

    I think BTwin/Decathlon stuff
I think BTwin/Decathlon stuff always offers good value for money – and it always performs well considering the price.

Then again the Cannondale CAAD8 is from one of the best alloy frame lineages in the history of road bikes.

If they both fit ok, then buy the one that you like the look of most, that will make you want to ride it.

Just bear in mind that the Cannondale would probably be easier to sell on secondhand should you get to that point for whatever reason in the future.

I tend to find that most formula’s are inaccurate, even the ones that are more complex than 220-age normally result for me in a similar to 200-age.

I’m 35 but can barely get past 180 even in a sprint at the end of a race.

I’ve found Shimano to be quite small for their size, so I’d go a size up.

Just like any other (non-bike) shoe, your toes shouldn’t be touching the end.

Going a size up won’t help the depth of the shoe so much though.

    +1 for the Aerofit BTwin.
+1 for the Aerofit BTwin. With a vest, this and a normal cycling jersey it was spot on today, possibly a bit too warm.

I find if you have windproof sleeves (say a with a softshell), then unless its really cold it it all gets a bit sweaty.

A really versatile bit of kit, cos you can wear it even when its quite warm without it being too hot.

I’ve also got a Gore Windstopper cycle jersey that is similarly good (but much more expensive) when used with arm warmers.

If the Cyclops is on the
If the Cyclops is on the TrainerRoad approved list, you just need TrainerRoad, ANT+ dongle and a speed/cadence sensor.

TrainerRoad will then give you an estimated power output based on your rear wheel speed and pedalling cadence. You can then do Sufferfest to the power profiles in TrainerRoad.

Yes, it won’t match up to a genuine power meter for true accuracy, but for working at specific levels and measuring improvement over time it is fine; and not reliant on heart rate.

Does no one have a problem with the chain and cassette not being worn in together, so the chain will skip/slip on the cassette where is gets least use? Or does everyone replace their chain religiously before it gets beyond the recommended wear limit?

Looks like the KickR would be a pain. Haing a separate set of sprockets on the turbo and taking the wheel out every time?

You probably know but you can do Sufferfest with TrainerRoad and one of their listed turbos plus an Ant+ dongle & sensors – doesn’t have to be a Watt Bike.

The pad itself won’t be any
The pad itself won’t be any less comfortable, but I find bib shorts tend to be more comfortable and getting the right size between two similar sizes isn’t so important since they stay up better. The OP has a problem with the pad moving which a bib design might prevent a bit better.

I’ve found Lusso size up quite large comparatively, but pretty good value.

I think there was a bigger
I think there was a bigger difference between older 105 and Ultegra (esp the chainset and brakes). Cables and general set up could potentially make more difference to how the groupset feels than difference in materials/manufacturing quality.

I’d be more bother by the step down from 105 to Tiagra. Tiagra feels quite light action but flimsy and the hood/lever shape isn’t as good.

I’ve probably already posted this somewhere, but I’ve got full 6700 on one bike; 5700 shifter/Microshift Arsis derailleurs/6800 Ultegra brakes on another; full 5800 on another and Tiagra on the commuter. There’s not a lot of difference between any of the set ups except the Tiagra set up.

You probably won’t notice the difference if you can’t ride the two groupsets back to back.

    Thinking about it perhaps
Thinking about it perhaps they’re too small and slipping down at the back, so the pad comes forward??

I can’t recommend the shorts in Decathlon highly enough for the price. £20 for some basic bib shorts or £40 for some pretty decent bibs (700 series). I’ve got 3 pairs of their 700 series bib shorts.

I’d hazard a guess at a combination of all 3 on this one.

Never had this happen to me though even with shorts too big.

I don’t see the issue? There are a lot of single pivot designs still out there – and still some high end designs too.

Why not try them before deciding they won’t be any good? Or failing that buy some decent cartridge pads before going the whole hog on new brakes?

    Shimano 105 5800 is probably
Shimano 105 5800 is probably the closest that 105 has ever been to Ultegra. The brakes are the same dual pivot, shifters only miss the carbon levers, and the outer chainring is not hollow like Ultegra.

If it was 5700 vs 6700 Ultegra, I’d have gone for the Ultegra, but for the new stuff (5800/6800), as per previous posts its the weight that is the main difference.
