Opinions vary on that, of course, but I have 820 and 520 Garmins and I much prefer using the 820 with its touchscreen. The touchscreen doesn’t like heavy rain, then again neither do I.

My recommendation is to avoid winter slop. It’s no fun acquiring 10kg of mud stuck to your wheels.

I’m mostly avoiding off-road at the moment but if I do get my wheels dirty, at the moment I’m running a CX tyre, X-Ones in 33mm width, and they’re surprisingly good in mud.

I can’t understand how we ever got the usual “beg” arrangement where pedestrians are effectively challenged to cross against the light, which will then change after they clear the crossing, merely to annoy drivers. Does anyone know of a reasonable excuse for this arrangement?

Designed by people who drive?  Even then it doesn’t make sense unless it’s to actively discourage use… which is probably the real reason. But I totally agree, the arrangement is nuts. All it needs is a short delay since the previous ped crossed, after that it goes green when you push, traffic stops, you cross, traffic continues, trump didn’t happen, brexit didn’t happen, and global warming is not an issue…. and then I woke up.

    Always hard to diagnose bike

Always hard to diagnose bike problems from afar, but anyway.

First, it’s good you can get the tyres to mount and inflate. With that done, it’s good to go for a ride immediately, even if just round the block a couple of times. This splashes sealant around inside the tyre and gets it where it’s needed. Try this and see if it has a good effect.

    Comfort is heavily influenced

Comfort is heavily influenced by tyre pressure. What pressure do you run?

Any thin oil should do, I think. Not that I’m posh enough to own any wheels with CULT hubs, lol. But they are just bicycle wheels and it’s not an exacting environment for lubricants either in terms of load or RPM.

Of course you can ride on the A12 in Suffolk. It’s just whether you’d want to, although I often have for short stretches. I wouldn’t sweat about a short distance on the A12. There are many small roads so you wouldn’t have to ride too far before getting back onto a sandy lane by a cabbage field.

I’ve been on holiday to the IoW and yes indeed the roads are in surprisingly good condition by British standards. I had wondered if that was down to a lack of frost in winter.

I’ve had to solve the same

I’ve had to solve the same issue, that of wanting a handlebar bag while also using Garmin and GoPro. I didn’t think any bar bag would really be compatible with out-front mounts so wasn’t constrained by that and got a little Restrap Canister bag with 1.5L of storage space. For the Garmin I got the K-Edge MTB/Stem Fixed Mount which substitutes a 5mm spacer under the stem top cap although really the basic Garmin rubber band mount would have put the Garmin in the same place. For the GoPro I have a mount that clamps to the handlebar so the GoPro sits above the bar. Which is convenient for turning it on and off (I’m not using it for traffic monitoring so not running it constantly).

I have a 2 year old pair of 28mm TL 5000s on one bike. Don’t believe I have ever flatted them and I have become confident in taking them off road. Plus they’re out and out fast.

Govt has stated everyone over 18 will have been offered vaccination by end of July. Festivals from August onwards have a decent chance of going ahead, I think.

To the OP, are you running the G-One Speeds tubeless, sounds like you’re not? It’s the way to go if you want to avoid stupid tube-changing stops. Don’t believe all the internet crap about it being difficult, if you commit to it and do it right, it just works.

I had a set of G-One Speeds TLR and they were great. The GP5K TLR is also a fabulous tyre.

    I haven’t built a 3T Strada

I haven’t built a 3T Strada but have done a couple of other disc frames. On both the gear and brake hose routing was underneath the spindle.
