With the seemingly endless rain in the UK, it’s the perfect time for our reviewers to put waterproof jackets to the test. Currently in for review at road.cc HQ, we have Spatz’s rain jacket and saddle bag system, a lightweight jacket from Universal Colours, Lusso’s “storm-level protection” jacket, and more. Here are the previews, with full reviews coming to the site soon.
Spatz Atak Pak (£179.99)

> How to choose the right waterproof cycling jacket
Spatz says the Atak Pak rain jacket and saddle bag system is designed to remove the hassle of carrying a jacket in your back pocket while riding. Instead, the jacket packs away into its own dedicated bag, which can be attached to your saddle, handlebars or stem.
The jacket is said to be windproof, water-repellent and highly breathable, with taped seams, long sleeves and a dropped rear hem for added coverage. The jacket is permanently attached to its bag, and when worn, the bag lies flat and is claimed by Spatz to be totally unnoticeable to you and others.

The Atak Pak is available in four sizes – S, M, L and XL – and two colour options: deep yellow and black, the latter being the version on test here.
Rapha Mens Reflective Anorak (£300)

Rapha’s Mens Reflective Anorak is described as a “lightweight anorak for riding and everyday use, delivering 360° visibility in a wind and abrasion-resistant construction”. It features a helmet-compatible hood and Velcro-adjustable cuffs, with abrasion-resistant shoulder panels designed to reduce wear from carrying a backpack.
Storage includes four pockets – two zipped hand pockets, a zipped front pocket and an open rear pocket, with an off-centre half zip at the front. Rapha suggests using this in temperatures of between 12–26°C.
It has an RRP of £300, though at the time of writing it is available at half price.
Gobik Superarmour Jacket Royal Black (€395 ~£340)

Gobik, clothing sponsor of WorldTour team Ineos Grenadiers, says their Superarmour Jacket Royal Black is designed to face “extreme conditions,” providing “exceptional performance in cold and wet conditions.”
Gobik recommends it for temperatures between -8°C and 7°C, claiming it blocks 99% of the wind thanks to the eVent DVstorm membrane, which is said to provide both windproof and waterproof protection. Inside is Polartec’s Alpha insulation which is a fleecy construction.
Our size large weighs 442g and Hollis Jones is testing it out, so check back soon for his verdict.
Lusso Perform HardRain Jacket (£180)

> Best long sleeve cycling jerseys
The Perform HardRain Jacket delivers “Storm-Level” protection, according to Lusso, offering the “perfect balance” of durability, performance, packability and comfort.
The jacket features a 3-Layer waterproof fabric with fully taped seams and a 15,000mm hydrostatic head rating, meaning it should be suitable for sustained riding in heavy rain. Our size large weighs 276g on our scales, and Lusso claims it packs down small enough to fit into a back pocket.
This a unisex option available in blue, as well as orange or black. Jez Ash is testing this one, so check back soon for his full review.
Universal Colours Women’s Mono Rain Jacket(£155)

“Designed to keep you dry in the most challenging conditions”, the Mono Rain Jacket from Universal Colours is said to be the ideal outer layer, that easily packs away in your jersey pocket. Our size small, weighs in at an impressive 118g on the road.cc Scales of Truth.
The jacket is coated with an environmentally friendly C0 PFC-free DWR layer and instead of using a PTFE membrane, the brand chose a PU (polyurethane) membrane from Japan.
While Rebecca Bland is testing the jacket in black, there are six other brighter colour options available, including pink, red and teal.

My wonderful better half got me the rapha reflective anorak for crimbo, looking forward to it warming up a bit so I can give it a try.
What on earth is “royal black”?
(Other than some people who like marching round Northern Ireland – I doubt they’re much in the market for spendy cycling jackets.)
