Bosch eBike Systems will hand over the reins of the E-Bike Positive campaign it founded to the Bicycle Association and the Association of Cycle Traders as of 1 January 2026.

The initiative was launched last year to promote the benefits of e-cycling and boost confidence in the safety of e-bike batteries, with Bosch leading the way and joining forces with the Bicycle Association (BA) and the Association of Cycle Traders (ACT).

Yes, those both have remarkably similar names, but the BA covers the UK bike industry supply chain while ACT supports independent bike shops. Cycling UK, the national cycling charity, also joined the cause.

“When we first developed the E-Bike Positive campaign, it was always our goal to one day hand it over to the wider UK cycling industry, so we could be in collective control of safeguarding it,” said Chris Astle, UK Marketing Manager for Bosch eBike Systems. “With the BA and ACT taking joint guardianship, it couldn’t be in better hands.”

The E-Bike Positive campaign appears to be reaching its goals. In June 2025, it cited a study that found that nearly half of young adults aged 25 to 34 were more likely to buy an e-bike now than they were a year ago – when the initiative launched.

E-bike battery fires remain a big (and utterly terrifying) concern. Around 400 e-bike shops have signed the E-Bike Positive retailer pledge to only sell and repair road legal e-bikes that are safety tested and from trusted suppliers, and the campaign aims to educate consumers about the importance of using certified batteries.

However, the London Fire Brigade saw a record increase in fires linked to e-bikes in 2025, the majority of which were caused by uncertified, low-quality batteries and chargers.

“[It] remains imperative to us that consumers are educated on battery safety,” said Chris Astle. “It’s something we take very seriously.”
