Madison Genesis have appealed for help in trying to track down Ian Bibby’s bike, which was stolen in Lancaster yesterday.
The Genesis Volare bike, worth £7,000 and pictured above, is one of only ten in the world and is finished in the team’s distinctive black, orange and light blue colours.
Made from Reynoldsd 953 tubing, it is equipped with a Shimano Dura Ace 9000 11 speed groupset, Dura Ace 35 wheels, and Pro finishing kit.
The bike was taken from outside the Music Room Café on Sun Square at around 3:30 to 3:45pm.

Should have locked it! You don’t leave your car unlocked outside the shops so leaving a shiny £8k bike unlocked is inviting an opportunist tea leaf to take it!

What makes you think it wasn’t locked? The report doesn’t say it was unlocked. You’d have to be mad bad or sad to leave a bike like that, or any bike in fact, unlocked in a town centre. Or daft, deluded or drunk. I do hope they cath the scumbag toe rag though, and make it suffer horribly. City centre stocks would be good, locked in for a day. With the bike lock which was on the bike for a bit of poetic justice.

Not condoning the thieving little scrotes but to leave any bike unattended in a town centre is asking for it.
Why appeal? It’s only going
Why appeal? It’s only going to increase the chances that the tea-leaf will find out they have a bike they can’t sell and you never see it again. Better to keep quiet and watch eBay/pinkbike/gumtree etc and pick up when it comes to market.

The tea-leafs will google it, work out it’s very rare, get the components off it and it’ll be melted down. 🙁

Well that should be easy to spot on ebay. Sadly, the most likely result is that they will sell on the groupo and the wheels and other parts and leave the frame. If however they are stupid enough to advertise it, it should be easy to find and the toss pots will be caught. I dont suppose Madison are that bothered though, they can afford it.

Expect to see some smack head
Expect to see some smack head in a few months time riding this around with a fat seat, rusty chain, buckled wheels, no front brake and gaffer tape around the decals.
It’s unlikely he’d have been
It’s unlikely he’d have been riding it just for a social pootle to his cafe, more likely he was out training and stopped off so very unlikely to have been carrying a lock. If it was in a town centre though then yeah not too smart but hindsight is a wonderful thing.
